Boost Others

Post by dugfromthearth »

Do I have these rules right for using Boost to affect others?

Boost increases your character's attribute for a particular effect or in certain circumstances. From the description I assume it requires no action to use, it just has the effect.

There is "affects others" for an enhancement. This does not indicate that it takes an action to use. So presumably boost that affects others takes no action, it just works.

"Only affects others" is a limitation. You could apply this so you can only boost others, not yourself. But requiring this as a limitation is annoying because you cannot take another limitation.

there is "concentration" limitation which makes it take an action, but reduces your movement and you go later, and you cannot take this with "only affects others" as they are both limitations.

So it seems you cannot make a Boost power that takes an action to use and only affects others. And if you could, you could not add another limitation.

Boosting others is common in games if not in actual comics, so it seems like a Boost Others power would be good (my character has one).

I am thinking just create Boost Others, effects like Boost, but affects others, only others, takes an action to use, and boosts the other character until the start of your next turn.

Also how would you make a boost that affected you on your next turn only and took an action? A lighting character building up a big bolt, or Dragon Ball Z type of thing?

Actually in my own game someone has this power- and because they have to touch the other person, it counts as an attack for them to do it.

Add the Gradual limitation.

Also, you CAN have more than 1 Limitation on a power- you just only get 1 pt discount regardless of how many you have. So if it makes sense for you to have 5 limitations, you can. You just only get 1pt off the cost.

It's been suggested that the combination of the enhancement Affects X plus the limitation Only Affects X is effectively a zero-sum special case, and that you could still add a different limitation to it. For the discussion, see this thread:

But it is still not "official", so it would definitely be up to the Narrator.
