Chimera, Ch 2.5, Night at Nycto's

Nycto sees the danger of the gathering of police officers around al'Malik.
He moves near the police car (half move) and in a calm voice he says to the police oficer "My name is Nycto, and I'm trying to help you and your friends out there.
You know what al'Malik can do! Think straight for a minute and say to everyone to stay away... Say that a shadowman will be arriving to stop the terrorist."

Nycto hangs a moment longer to see if the message has passed, and then concentrates on the intersection.

Nycto teleports (as a concentration move) to the place in question.

OOC: Dustland, I now understand what's going on but does Fenris?

With his high Hearing and Smell Perception can he detect what is happening two blocks over?

Does he know enough to connect al Malik name and the exploding guy?

Can he reach the intersection in Move 20?

If yes to all of those questions, Fenris Moves 20 toward the intersection and will body slam al Malik, in order to knock him away from the gathering police.

If yes to the first two questions and no to the third question, Fenris will double move toward the intersection and try to position himself to protect the maximum number of innocents.

If no to any of the first two questions, Fenris will Move next to Nycto and say "take me there too if you can."

(I can't... But if move 20 is enought to get there (I suppose it isn't) Nycto will teleport-move and them TK the man down.)

I'm not going to worry about specific distances right now; I'll say Nycto arrives first then Fenris will arrive moments later. Also Fenris, from reading the posts since you've arrived, I think it would be reasonable for you to deduce what is going on.

Protheuz: The officer stares at you, clutching his shotgun. He nods his head as though to agree with you, a strange grimace on his face, then speeds away down the street. You step into the shadows, stepping out near the intersection...

Saker: You hear police cars converging two blocks away as you watch Nycto speak to the cop. The cop speeds off then Nycto vanishes; you sprint down the street towards the growing noise of the police cars. You turn the corner and...

Both of you arrive at about the same time, trying to work out how to stop this madman from hurting anyone else. Nycto, you are suprised to see Fenris come sprinting around the corner, his large frame moving more like some bipedal predator than man.

Looking back at the gathered cops, you're trying to make out where al'Malik is. The policeman you warned hops out of his patrol car, shotgun in hand, and rushes over to an older officer who is clearly in charge.

You see the gray haired officer point towards a nearby car, a female officer chatting with other cops while a emt is applying bandages to a man in cuffs, Adam al'Malik! The cop with the shotgun turns and runs to the criminal, roughly shoving the emt to the ground.

Both of you try to shout a warning just as the cop raises his shotgun. A startled look crosses the bound terrorist, obviously not expected such a rash action from a lawman. A flash and blast sound out and for a moment you two think the nova has exploded once again.

Instead, Adam al'Malik falls back into the patrol car, a gaping hole in his chest accompanying his other wounds. The stunned officers turn and dive on the officer, taking him to the ground.

Fenris acts first, then Nycto; assume either of you can reach the car in one move if either of you choose to.

Fenris brachiates next to the patrol car with al'Malik.

If al-Malik's eyes are still aware and he is still obviously alive, Fenris grabs him in such a way to soak any potential detonation.

If al-Malik is not obviously moving, Fenris readies to grab him and soak a detonation if he awakes. And asks, "Is he dead?"

"Fenris??" mutters Nycto as he sees the beast-man passing near him!

As he sees the scene unfold, for a instant, in his mind, he sees a bomb detonating near his armoured vehicle, his dead friends shattered around...

Snapping back to reality Nycto thinks The man saved them all, and now he's being arrested. I've got to do something about it if I can.

Nycto nears the car, to where the cops are huddling and speaks in a loud voice "STOP THAT. The man has saved you all."
Speaking slower and calm he adds "al'Malik was a Nova and his power was to self-destruct. He was truly a human bomb. How do you supposed he passed airport security?
Any second now, and without him" pointing at the cop "you would all be dust... "

Looking at Fenris and al'Malik he thinks I hope he is dead this time.... "From what I could observe al 'Malik only blew after he said a prayer, but we never know..."

The emt, still on the ground, screams "What the * is that!?!" as Fenris lands at his feet.

Fenris: You quickly look at al'Malik's body and see the chest bubble with blood one last time as he draws his last breath, eyes rolling back in his head.

Protheuz: The older officer, a gray haired, crew cut man with an impassive face and cold gray eyes turns to see who is making a mess of his crime scene. Just as the officers get the young cop cuffed, the older one draws his pistol.

"You two, I don't know who the * you are or what the * you think you're doing, but you are impeding an investigation and are about to find your butts in jail!" He motions to a group of officers who move to Fenris to force him away from the car while he keeps his gun trained on Nycto, gesturing for him to back up.

Down the street two more patrol cars are speeding to the scene and will arrive the next round. From the other direction, Javier and Jason turn onto the street and see the gathered officers, a dead body, a man in cuffs, and Nycto and Fenris in the middle of it all! (Overdrive sees the same thing as he lands on a rooftop overlooking the intersection).

Order:
1. Fenris
2. Overdrive
3. Boost, Nycto, and Javier
4. Cops (Captain, 8 officers, 1 emt, plus two more cars on the way)

Fenris says, "I'm not impeding an investigation. I was here to protect you from the Nova who could detonate himself. Since the Nova is now dead, I'm going to help any survivors of the plane crash"

Fenris moves to accelerate to top speed toward the crash site.

Confused, Overdrive observes the surroundings looking for the crash site under the cover of the rooftop.
At first he doesn't pay attention to the unusual gathering but then he notices familiar faces.
//Troubles ahead?//

(Protheuz may be right there s no proper crash site. But Overdrive doesn't know the explosion was actually Al'Malik.Anyway, he holds ...)

Nycto watches Fenris split and thinks Good move. I can teleport out of here in a second, but if they held you, things could get messy. I still don't know if these guys will listen but the cop only chance is to have a witness.

Alan turns to the captain and tries to explain what happened in a calm voice from the inside of the shadows "I'll start with the beginning. I'm Nycto, and what I'm doing is saving your and your men's butts.
al'Malik here was a Nova, and his power was self-exploding, and returning to life. That's how he bypassed the airport security and made the planes explode, and miraculously attacked again.
I saw him crash down in the middle of the plane pieces, and saved your man there. You can ask him.

He saved all of you when he killed al'Malik. The terrorist was going to explode in the middle of you all, killing and then escaping easily.
Now you believe me or not. But at least believe in your guy over there."

Turning to the cuffed cop he adds "Don't worry, I'm not bailing out on you. I'll even testify, if needed."

Fenris: Ignoring the police, you set out to see if there is anything you can do to help. It becomes quickly apparent that there is no hope for the people who had been on the plane which broke up into toaster sized pieces long before they hit the ground. As you work your way past a pair of startled firefighters, you see at the end of the street Javier and Jason in Javi's car.

Protheuz: The steely eyed officer (Captain Marshall by the name on his pocket) listens to you with an impassive look on his face, pistol still in his hand at his side. Nodding in agreement he says, "Well Nycto, I'll need to see some ID and Officer Mitchell here can take your statement." Another young officer steps wearily towards your shadowy form, his hand on the hilt of his pistol.

Overdrive: You watch as the hulking form of Fenris leaves the scene, picking his away around the bits of plane. He pauses as he catches site of Javier's car at the end of the street. The shadowy form of Nycto remains, talking to two weary looking officers.

Javier and Jason: You two watch the scene unfold a block away; after a few moments Fenris leaves the police and begins to make his way over towards your car. The shadowy form of Nycto remains, talking to two weary looking officers.

"No ID captain. It's hard to get by with these powers as it is, without them becoming public." Answers Nycto "But I'll give you the statement and a phone number to contact me, if you need me in court, or in the investigation." thinking a little he adds "or for anything else you might need."

Protheuz: "I'm not asking sir. Either provide me with some ID or I'm taking you in for refusal to identify. You can cool your nova heels in a cell until it becomes convenient for you to cooperate, understand?" His voice shows no hint of compassion or compromise. You can hear officers behind you nervously shuffling about.

Looking to the officer he says "If you want, you can put me in a cell from where I can easily evade, but won't, all for wanting to help your man there. I think I helped you all today, but distrust is all I receive. "
With a sadder voice he adds "My normal, non Nova life depends on the secret identity this form gives me. Otherwise..."

Javier parks and does his best impression of someone trying to not look like he's hiding.

"Great," he mutters. "That's all we need. 5-O crawling all over the place."

He eyes the scene with concern. "If the s**t hits the fan, I'm unassing the area stat. I don't need to go rounds with the cops."
