[Bit of text there reads a bit confusing. Kerbi lowered the rabbit down so she's not tied up anymore.]
Kerbi prods the rabbit genty but urgently. "Oy right back," he huffs gruffly. "I understand if ye're not feeling up to snuff, but we've got company comin' and we don't want to be greetin' them, so if ye've got a place to go, point out the way and we'll be off."

[Sorry, just realized you stated Kerbi took the rabbit down. My bad!]
The young rabbit twitches and moans as she tries to assume an upright position. With a bit of help, she finally flops up on her haunchs and wiggles her nose.
"Redtooth an' his mates dug up and through me burrow I'm afraid," she says quietly. "And well, you'd be hard pressed to wiggle your way into it anyhow!" Another wolf's cry carries through the woods, answered by many others, closer you think.
You stand quickly with the glaive in your paws as you realize some are particularly close. A small bloody rabbit's paw touches your foot softly to calm you; you look down and you see the young lass's mangled ears wearily swiveling to and fro as she listens intently to the calls.
"They be a headin' to the manor over yonder. Master's callin' 'em over, and on no account of us bein' here I believe. That could change I suppose big fella. Name's Mable, and I thankee sai..." The young rabbit collapses into a pile of red stained fur as exhaustion overtakes her.

Kerbi sighs in tired resignation. This is certainly not a good time for him to saddle himself with yet another responsibility. It's probably Summer's penchant for hard-luck cases starting to rub off on him.
The memory of his mistress causes a pang of dismay to strike him. He's no closer to discovering what is ailing her, never mind curing her, with time running out. But leaving the young rabbit to her fate runs against his nature.
Kerbi gently picks up Mable, attentive to her injuries. He prods her again, trying to convey some urgency in his tone, "I still need a place to take you, luv. You've got to have some kin that'll care for ye, after all."

[Gah! I accidently deleted my post! I hate the preview button...]
By way of reply, Mable curls into a fuzzy ball in the crook of your arm and begins to snore away. You sigh and look around for a clue as to how to proceed.
Picking your way quietly through the trees, Mable in one hand, your glaive in the other, you return to the edge of the weed-choked grounds that surround the ruined manor house.
You smell them before you see them, a dozen or more wolves gathered at the base of the stairs leading to the remains of the main entrance to the manor. A single wolf is kneeling in supplication before a man. With a gesture the man sends the gathered wolfs off in a pack of howls and barks, darting off across the grounds and into the woods across the estate from you.
Your gaze follows the pack as they slip into the treeline, sent off on some errand by the man. You look back to the stairs and see the man looking directly at your hiding place! Despite the hundred yards distance, his whispered voice carries to you...
"You're a loyal boy Kerbi, you will serve your master well."
Before you can react, his form sways in an unseen breeze and he rises into the air, shifting and twisting until the human form is replaced by that of an impossibly large bat. As fast as you can blink, the beast darts across the night sky, back in the direction of distant Tidewater!

A whine escapes Kerbi's lips. The stench of dark magic makes his nose itch.
He looks down at the unconscious Mable, indecision making him tremble. His speed will be hampered by carrying the rabbit, and speed is what's needed.
Yet he could not face his mistress with the knowledge that he had abandoned a creature in need, regardless of the reason. Summer had imprinted that in him too well.
With another whine, he sheathes his glaive and adjusts his harness to, hopefully, keep Mable on his back. With a mumbled apology for the rough ride ahead, he bounds off, in a race against foulness for the soul of a girl.
[In case it needs to be explicitly stated, he's running full speed back into town to the inn.]

[+1 Hero Die for your heroic rescue of Mable!]
You race back through the overgrown gardens, then through the rat infested lemon orchard. For whatever reason, the rats do not molest you, though hundreds of beady eyes watch you from the burrows and trees as you pass.
You reach the King's Middlin' Road and head back to Tidewater as fast as your weary legs will carry you. Half an hour into your desperate trip, you catch the unmistakable stench of mildew, rust, and rat liver. Sloat! You slide to a hault, nearly collapsing in exhaustion.
"Are we there..by the White, what is that stench?!?" pipes Mable from your back. You quickly shush her and turn in a circle, sniffing the air for where that * cat has gotten off to.
Behind you you hear Sloat's voice call out, somehow pained and parched, "Kerbi old boy, damned fools work you set me to! To the long night with that wretched master of yours..." You grab the filthy cat by the throat and lift him clear of the ground.
"What are you doing here cat? Where's Summer? Speak quickly before I snap your sorry neck!"
You find yourself holding air as Sloat vanishes into nothing, then appears in a branch above you. "I tried Kerbi, I swear I did. You never told me that wench, er, your master would WANT that man to return! He showed up a few minutes ago and she popped right up, right as rain, and let him in her room. I grabbed her and took her to the roof, and what dose she do?!? She blasted ol'Sloat clear off the tavern! Not even sure how I survived to tell ya the truth."
You tremble with rage and frustration but you recognize the smell of singed flesh and fur under the terrible musk of Sloat; you've seen Summer call forth arcs of lightning at trees and rocks, you can only imagine how painful it must be to actually get hit by one.
"Sorry pal, I came as fast as I could, I swears it to be true." His feline eye flickers to your back, "You gonna eat that? I'm starved." His voice trails off as he licks his ivory teeth and purrrs at the thought of bunny liver.

Kerbi absently answers his last question as he ponders the news. "Touch her and you'll be wearing yer guts for garters."
His attention is on his current predicament. He curses himself mentally for not expecting the turn of events. The evil man is not intent on killing Summer, but possessing her.
Kerbi grinds his teeth in his frustration as a wave of helplessness and despair threatens to overwhelm him. But as long as there is breath in his body, he will defend and protect Summer's life and soul. It's his reason for living.
"Cat!" he barks at Sloat. "Did you catch what direction they were going 'fore you ran off?"

"Well, I, um, no Kerbi. I started jumping down the Middlin' Road, hoping I'd run into you."
"Did he say eat me?" Mable peeps sheepishly from her perch high on your back.
Your head is spinning from anger, frustration, and a lack of sleep. You find yourself pacing in a circle, muttering, "Where did she go, where did she go..." Sloats continues to sit in the tree, licking his singed fur and watching you with a look of concern while Mable tries to not lose her lunch from her growing dizziness.
"I'm here Kerbi, come here you big furball!" You look up, startled, as Summer comes walking down the road in the dim star light towards you. Your heart lifts and you start to dash across the short distance to your master, ignoring the angry hiss that escapes Sloat from above you.
But the flapping of wings stops you in your tracks; a dark shape, a giant bat, flaps to Summer's side, then twists and morphs into the form of a man. Summer smiles at him and takes his hand. His pale face smiles at you as she calls you once more to her side...

Kerbi's fur rises as he stares at the dark man, a deep-throated growl emanating from his body so loud Mabel has to hold her jaw shut to keep her teeth from rattling.
"Summer!" he calls out roughly. "Get away from him! He's a bad man!"
His nose twitches as he falls back to his most-trusted sense to discern the truth of what he sees. Is this truly his beloved mistress in front of him?

Over the horrendous stench of Sloat, you make out your master's scent, though it seems....weaker. Once again, the mysterous Mr Redcoin seems to have no indentifiable scent of his own.
A mixture of shock and embarrassment crosses Summer's face at your outburst. Mr Redcoin leans closer and whispers into her ear. Summer nods and a stony look crosses her face. With the full force of her will, Summer commands you,"Kerbi come here!"
[You can resist her command with a Will Defense roll]

You reluctantly lay at your master's feet as Mr Redcoin smiles and nods his head at Summer in a gesture of approval.
"Redtooth, to me," commands the well-dressed man; from deep in the woods the pack of wolves respond with howls and barks. Shortly the dirt road is filled with stinking wolves; Sloat gives a hiss from his perch in the tree then slips into the shadows. Mable shuffles deeper into your pack, a trembling warm spot on your back.
Together you all begin the walk back to the manor. Confused, enraged, and hurt, you feel your master's will draw tighter around you at every little growl or sign of disobedience, something she's never done before. You listen to their talk, sounding like a pair of old lovers planning their next few years together.
**********************************************************
Days go by slowly at the ruined manor. Summer and Mr Redcoin take to living deep in the ruins in a well-appointed basement that seems to have escaped the devistation above ground. You are mildly pleased that the wolves are kept patrolling the woods, allowing you at least the hope that you may spend some time alone with Summer, if only this Redcoin fellow would leave her side for but a moment.
You try to convince Mable to slip out but she refuses to leave your side; you learn that the wolves destroyed her warren and she has no intention of leaving her new found protector, though she's very confused by your loyalty to the human. Summer finds the rabbit an amusing accessory to your new den and so Mable spends her days hopping around, staying well within reach of you at all times.
Summer takes to the strange schedule of the man, sleeping throughout the day, rising at sunset. Disturbingly, her scent continues to fade. Even worse, she sometimes returns with the scent of blood on her. Any questions regarding her activities are met with dissaproval and banishment to a corner of the room.
Is this how you are to spend your remaining days? Gaurding your master and her monstrous consort (as you are certain he is a monster of some sort)? Your loyalty waivers but never fails through the long days and longer nights....
[End of Chapter 1]
[If there's specific things Kerbi wishes to learn/do during this time, let me know. As long as he can reasonably do them while under the close scrutiny and domination of Summer, I'll allow it. If not, we'll start on to Chapter 2.]

[Scent of blood? I assume not hers?
I was thinking Kerbi would try to find some way to keep in touch with Sloat, but I'm not sure what he could say to the cat.
Kerbi would probably work out his frustrations by practicing with his weapon. So you'd have sort of an arming scene, Kerbi doing weapon katas in the gloom of the basement room, the polearm whistling through the air like a swooping eagle seeking its prey.]
