That was exactly the problem I was having getting it to updateBASHMAN wrote:There is one more thing- make sure that when you update it, you have the box "Beta" checked. That issue confounded me for the better part of an afternoon. Once you get it working though, it's really great.
After figuring it out (re: being pointed to it by Alter Ego's very friendly customer support), I got the program updated and am very much enjoying messing around with the program.
Good stuff Alric! Thanks for the help everyone.

I ended up buying it, mainly as a vanity thing "hey look someone made a computer program to make characters in my game... awesome". But I have actually found it very useful for making characters when you don't have the book in front of you.Samuraidad wrote:How much is MetaCreator?
Addendum: Found it. $20, not bad. I'll consider it.
The way I always used to make characters was to open up the pdf on one half of the screen, and ms word on the other half, and write the character in word while I looked stuff up in the book. This program makes that unnecessary, as I can make the character entirely in the program and then just copy & paste the information into word or comic life, or whatever I'm using, and format it how I like it there. If I get really lazy, I can even just use the sheet export function that comes w/ the program. It is very cool, imo.
There is a little bit of a learning curve- so I recommend reading this thread - especially my posts as it seems as if I had a ton of problems getting it to work at first... but I did get that all squared away.

A couple of notes about the price. MetaCreator is available by itself for $20 or bundled with a template, like Savage Worlds or Ars Magica, for $30. You can also buy various templates for $15. The BASH template that I created only needs the base MetaCreator program (the $20 version).Samuraidad wrote:How much is MetaCreator?

Once you have the base metacreator, either by buying the $20 version or any of the bundles (the $30 versions), you only need the templates for additional game systems. If you bought MetaCreator with SavageWorlds for $30 and later decided that you wanted to play UniSystem you only need to buy the UNiSystem template for $15 not the unisystem bundle for $30.

The output, both text and sheets, is completely customizable. I eventually plan on creating an HTML export for posting characters on the web. Also a BB code export would be nice for posting on most boards.BASHMAN wrote:This program makes that unnecessary, as I can make the character entirely in the program and then just copy & paste the information into word or comic life, or whatever I'm using, and format it how I like it there. I'm very confused.
I understand purchasing and using the Metacreator program (haven't done so yet, but waiting to understand how this BASH game system template), but what I'm trying to figure out is WHERE or HOW do I get and attach/update the Metacreator with your BASH template?
Can someone who's done so offer advice?
The links on the first page of this thread no longer work, or I'm doing it wrong...
thanks

Looks like my server is down. My roommate is probably working on the machine, or the dynamic IP service has crashed again. I'll find out when I get home tonight.kevperrine wrote:I'm very confused.

Okay. I'll see what I can do.Alric wrote:If it's convenient that would be great, at least until we get a new server up and running.Nestor wrote:In the meantime, would you like an alternate location for downloading the file?
I'm pretty sure I kept a copy of my download that I can contribute to the cause.

My apologies. My usual site for file sharing has unfortunately gone the way of the dodo and I hadn't had the chance to unearth another one.kevperrine wrote:Nestor wrote:Okay. I have no idea how well this site is, but it's the first one I found after a Google search. Here's the link to the zip file:
