Devastating Weakness

Post by Boost »

I'm wondering if this counts as a Devastating Weakness. It's like the Negating Weakness, but one step forward. Without the source of your powers your Agility and Brawn are reduced to Zero.

I'm working on a scientist who was crippled during a lab accident and forced to create an Exo-Skeleton to get around.

I'd probably allow it. It doesn't leave you on a pseudo-equal footing with minions (except for number of hits), it actually leaves you well below a minion's effectiveness. If you / your Narrator are unsure, you could throw on an additional element like it also makes you lose 20 hits when you are out of your armor, similar to the effect of the Age (Old) disadvantage, or some other element.

I'd certainly allow it- it sounds perfectly reasonable. Don't forget that the stuff in the book isn't all you can use_ it is also a foundation to base your own ideas on.

Thanks guys, just seeing if others saw it as much of a horrible weakness as I did.

I often get confused on the Devastating Weakness, for example... Kryptonite?

Should it be the extra damage as well as the power negation? Or should it be two separate weaknesses?

remember you need special narrator permission to have more than 1 weakness page 5 , and its recommended against page so id say its one
but it would be a 4 pointer

I have no issue with multiple weaknesses in my games, so long as they make sense.

Hence if Superman is exposed to Green Kryptonite he loses his powers as well as it being fatal to him.

Red Kryptonite gives him a strange mutation.

Etc...

How do represent all that with one Devastating Weakness doesn't seem to make it fair to a character who has only one effect or weakness for the same points.

well i think its more about how often a weakness comes up in play than total number of variant weaknesses , with superman his weakness seem to more often than not run the story . But if a character isn't cool with that , and only wants to be inconvenienced once in a adventure of so , i think he should get less points . after all the 10 pints or so superman would be due is enough on world class power scale or less to give him a major edge against the other players .
i get 10 points from
4 green k , 4 other color 2 magic

I wouldn't give superman the other colors, I'd lump it in with regular Kryptonite. That's just my opinion since any other color than green is extremely rare.
