[Various] Commissions from various artists

Post by urbwar »

Since I've shown off a lot of the work Kris Smith has done for me, I figured I'd share art I've gotten from other artists. Some was for personal use; others are for use in future projects.

First up is some pieces Dan Houser (aka Alienmastermind) did for me. These were posted on a thread over on rpg.net, but I'm reposting them here.

First up is The Sinister Scorpion/Red Scorpion. He has an armored carapace for protection, and has scorpion pincers coming out of his arms:

The next two are members of the Crime Guild, who are the enemies of the Guardians of Liberty. The first one is Mental Marauder, the group's leader. He has a helmet with a backpack generator that gives him various mental powers. He's a generational villain, as his grandfather used the same identity int he Golden Age:

The next one is The Bugler. He's also a generational villain, and gets his powers from a magical bugle:

More to come!

So he did all three?
I just love love love the quirky-not-quite super sharp/stylized (as a Bruce Timm character or Kris' work) style. Especially for a game like BASH!

I'd love to see either Kris' style or Dan's style "adopted" as THE art style for the BASH! UE game... if I were art director and owner that is... hehe...
NOTE:
That is NOT to criticize the art of BASH! now. I just believe it can be best to pick a "style" (which can mean a specific artist or every artist working toward that style, to use exclusively) and stay with it... letting that art style BE a signature of the game itself. Sorta like John Kovalic's art is the signature of the Munchkin games.

PS...
I'm still/always curious about pricing. As I remember Kris' art is very reasonable but Dan's is double or more Kris' cost. Is that true? Am I remembering correctly? Do you know their pricing to list here?
I suppose I'd also love to know their availability too. I would love to begin some of my own projects and use those guys (as signature art) in that way. Hopefully I'll be able to come out of being unemployed and have a little disposable income to do so (soon I pray to God!!).

Great quirky-cool characters too!!
love to see more!
thanks!

Yes. I ordered these all during his sale last year before GenCon

Dan's pricing was about the same, but went up a little after she joined forces with Shadowchaser over on rpg.net. It's not much more than what Kris charges me, but these were for a special, lower price.

Dan has a lot on his plate though. He's the in house artist for ICONS, so he does all their art for the most part. he also does art for Vigilance Press. I had ordered 15 pieces when he did his special last summer, and he's completed 9, with one more almost done. Not his fault, cause he's got to fulfill his agreements with Adamant and others. But it sucks to have to wait so long to get prepaid work back. I decided to have the remaining characters be slots in the next Hero Pack. The guy is in demand, so I had to roll with the flow.

Your welcome. I have other art to share from Cu Morrig, and Ade Smith coming next. I think both did some kick * work for me; wait until I post the stuff Cu Morrig did for my Plague of Darkness one shot!

Ok, so now here's some work from our own Cu Morrig. The first one he posted in his own thread, but I wanted to share again. This was a personal commission for an old character of mine named Brawler. He's a super powered wrestler who went from being a villain to a hero.

Image

The next two were from my "Plague of Darkness" cosmic one shot. Cu Morrig did a great job with both, and the players loved them.

First up is an image of the ships used by the aliens who were part of the invasion force. They were inspired by both the Vorlon and Shadow ships of Babylon 5

Image

And finally, Tal Z'agoth, the planet sized servitor of ancient, Cthulhoid deities. His giant eye would shoot beams at planets. The first would kill everyone (but leave buildings intact), and the second would reanimate the bodies as zombies to serve it's master:

up next, a commission from Ade Smith!

Ade Smith (Five Minutes to Midnight & Comic Cavalcade) is doing a few pieces for me. The first one he did was also a rendition of my old character Brawler. I'm using this image for a non-powered version of the character I'm playing in a V&V game:

Another one from Ade:

In an old Champions campaign, I had a group of super powered Muslin terrorists. As I'm going through my old stuff to modernize and have new images done, I decided to bring this group back. However, they will no longer be terrorists, as I find that too stereotypical and cliched. Instead, they will likely be heroes for a government not allied with the U.S., thus allowing them to remain opponents for player characters, while no longer be cookie cutter villains.

Anyway, one of the characters is named after the wrestler who was the first to fall to what would become Hulkamania. The first version Ade did give him regular eyes (the original had the eyes fully red, which Ade corrected for me); rather than let that go to waste, I figured I'd share the normal eyed version. So without further ado, here is The Iron Sheik:

Image

Oh, and Ade said he feels he doesn't do a good job with shiny metal types like Iron Man or the Silver Surfer. Personally, I think he did a fantastic job with the metallic skin for the Sheik. If you agree, please say so in this thread. I think Ade needs to know he can do these kind of character pretty * good!

many thanks! The reason I didn't do a power armor guy for my power pics was because I never really liked any of my "shiny" attempts. Guess I just needed more practice.

So as you all know, Dan Houser has been doing these Hero Packs for the ICONS line. I decided to go ahead and pick up some slots in the 3rd one, as it was originally planned for just space/cosmic type heroes. Deciding to do something different, I created a team of heroes set in the 1950's. They all have origins related to aliens, and work together to prevent a future where aliens have conquered the Earth. Known as The Tomorrow Squad, they fight for mankind's future!

First up: The leader, Doc Future:

Beacon, master of light:

Astral Girl, half alien psionic:

Astro-Man, former astronaut now powered by the cosmos itself:

Quartz, turned into a humanoid gemstone by aliens:

Lastly, the team image:

Saker,

Glad you liked them! I was pretty pleased with how they turned out. I might do BASH versions down the road for them. Most shouldn't be too hard to convert.

Dan told me he was trying to emulate the look Kirby used during the Silver Age, so you are right on the money about that!

I'm actually excited to contribute to the "official" setting for ICONS. Even more so since my team technically is the Silver Age of the ICONS setting too!

Those images from Dan are really nice. Love the Kirby-ness and the coloring is great.
