Linked: Once More Into The Breach

Post by Nestor »

I'm sure people are at this point truly sick and tired of the topic of Linked coming up yet again, so please accept my apologies for my lack of understanding.

I'm playing around with the ION Guardsman character from Colin's ION Guard sourcebook when I noticed something. Telekinesis as described does not give the user the power to Grab a target, only to move it. If I understand the rules right, grabbing takes Immobilize.

Now, I'm thinking it's pretty much in concept for a Guardsman to imprison a miscreant with his ION Fist.

So attaching the Linked enhancement to Telekinesis costs 2 points, right? Would I need to also purchase the power I'm Linking to (in this case, Immobilize)? Or do the 2 points pay for a power "slot" with points up to the cost of the TK?

In other words, could I use the 2 points from the Guardsman's Omnipotence power to link Telekinesis with Immobilize 4 (Close range) and have both powers go off together?

Hopefully I'm explaining this right.

Yes, that's how it works.

Wait- where does it say TK cannot grab a target? TK can do anything Wrestling can do- you are essentially grappling someone with an invisible hand you control with your mind.

The difference is Immobilize is a "set it and forget it" power- you can Immobilize enemy A, and while he's trying to get out (of your big golden energy ropes you lassoed him with) you can try and Lasso enemy B. With TK you CAN grab someone though. But it takes your panel to hold them there (or do something with them while their held, like crush them or throw them). You can only affect 1 guy at a time w/ TK also- unless you buy it w/ a bunch of enhancements.

Oh, okay. The word "grab" is not mentioned anywhere in the power description for Telekinesis, and considering I've already been burnt (unintended pun) by making assumptions on the powers, I didn't want to take the chance.

On second glance, I do see the word "wrestling" in there, but the connection wasn't immediately obvious. My bad.

Since I have your attention (and engaging in a slight topic drift), could I use an Omnipotence level to add a slot in a Multi-Power?

Specifically, the character in quesiton has a Combat Multi-Power built as follows:

Combat Multi-Power (7pts):
* Special Attack 4 [Variable, No Effect vs. Magic]
* Force Field 4 [Variable, No Effect vs. Magic]
* Telekinesis 5 [No Effect vs. Magic]

Could I use Omnipotence to add a slot? For example:

* Immobilize 4 [Variable, No Effect vs. Magic]

or:

* Deflect 2 [Long Range, No Effect vs. Magic]

The impression is that I could based on the sentence "Any existing powers stack with any powers in Omnipotence, and Omnipotence can be used to place Enhancements on any existing powers."

Not by the rules as written. For Bashman's post on that, see this link:
