Maintained/Sustained/Or?

Post by AslanC »

Let's take Immobilization.

In my game we use random Priority every Page.

Now Zero-G has Immobilization. He turns it on to stop the Citadel goons attacking that Page. He goes first, so they are stuck trying to escape that Page.

Next Page he gets last Priority. The goons go first. Are they still Immobilized? Or does it drop until his Panel?

If yes, is there a way to make it a Sustained power? Would that be an enhancement?

Or would it have to be Maintained? Would that be a limitation?

Aslan,

all you need is the Second Nature enhancement, from page 39

That's for making a Maintained power Sustained, Immobilization is neither Maintained or Sustained according to its description.

you're right; my mistake. Of course, you could just make an enhancement that makes a power maintained/sustained if you wanted.

Looking at immobilized though, until they break free, why would they be able to act at all? They way I read the power description, until they break free, the immobilization effect is still active. It only stops once they break it. So if they go first on the next page, they still have to break free first.

May be the way to go :)

I think you are right, which makes it a VERY powerful power. Which I am just fine with ;)

I'm sure it would be fairly easy to write up

well, it reads like how it should be in comics. Look at Spidey's webs; goons never break out, and even other supers (depending on their power level) have a difficult time breaking out of them. They're not getting hurt by the attack, but they are out of action until they break free.

Only if you needed it, since the power is sort of a one-shot stay active, I guess it wouldn't need it in the end then.

Right but that works because Spidey has a "fire-and-forget" immobilize. If you are Magneto using the magnetic fields to immobilize, wouldn't it seem more logical that he had to maintain the field?

That's where I get lost in it myself.

Not really; I've seen Magneto immobilize someone in a field, turn his back and ignore them, and start launching magnetic blasts at other foes. It kind of depends on who's writing him at the time :P
