So there are two things telling you which users are online, one on the left side bar that's always there, and one at the bottom of the Forums page... thing is they always disagree... which one is right?

I always assumed the left hand list is who is online, not necessarily who's on the forum. The bottom one I figured was who is actually on the website since you can click on it and find out what forum each person is looking at.

I'll be curious to hear the answer too.

Actually, Dustland is pretty accurate. The one on the left has a longer timeout value, basically. It'll show you who's been logged in to the website itself (it's possible - but very difficult - to be logged into the forum without being logged into the site, and vice versa). The forum listing has a much shorter timeout and is intended to see who's browsing what section at any given time.

Additionally, the lefthand section will also include google bots and other entities in the "visitor" list, whereas the forum list filters them out.
