Actually, with zero player planning, we are close to forming the original Xmen:

Volsung = Collosus
Saker = Wolverine
Boost = Rogue
Nestor = inverse Iceman
Nycto = a little Shadowcat and Nightcrawler

cheers

(Phew, a salutary change of subject! Thanks)
I think there's 'more than meet the eye'.
For exemple despite his armor, Overdrive is closer to a Spiderman or a even Wolverine in terms of speed and nimbleness.

And Nycto seems to be able to invoke a whole bestiary.

I agree with the "more than meets the eye" statement, and despite some of our powers are similar to the X-man (or to the reverse X-man) the characters themselves aren't similar.

Im my POV it's not the powers that make the heroes, it's their personalities, backgrounds, and the way that they handle situations.

For instance, I believe our group, in general, is "darker" than the X-man.

Here's my turn for a lengthy post. ;-)

In the years I've played in superhero RPGs, I've noticed a general tendency for players to write up self-sufficient characters. In other words, heroes who are capable across-the-board in terms of effects: attack, defense, movement, perception etc. This tends to run counter to the X-Men trope, in which each character focuses on one ability, depending on the rest of the group to support other aspects.

Take, for example, Cyclops. His ability is, he can fire eye beams. That's it. He has no defensive or movement capabilities (other than training and equipment). Yet, he's an integral part of the team and carries his own weight.

The thing is, I was envisioning this game to follow that sort of mentality and built my character, Javier, accordingly. His power is to create and control fire. Period. He can't fly or teleport, and the closest he has to a defense is generating a wall of fire that has some ability to absorb damage. And if he fires that up, he can't do anything else.

The bottom line is, I don't have a problem with characters that aren't well-rounded or all-capable. Part of the fun is to see how powers can interact and complement each other.

Phew! Okay, that was my long-winded reply. I think I'll go lie down now. ;)

Well, I didn't have that constrain in mind.
I wanted to play an archetype that I'd like. (A bit japanimation/Tokusatsu inspired)
Since street level characters (and even Mystery men) can be fairly versatile with Bash it was within my reach.

I wondered if he could fit in an Avengers/JL team. (Even if most of them are 'World class')

I admit Harrison is not original
He could probably appear in Smallville ;)

Besides changing the subject for Volsung, I was jsut pointing out the similarities with the Xmen that I thought was great coincidence.

Nestor, I agree with your observation that the Xmen are very unbalanced from a game mechanic combat point of view. Fortunately, they have good authors that match them up with their evil twins who they can battle ad infinitum. Then, on the last page everyone changes dueling partners and finishes the fight. Magneto faces Wolverine and Collosus, Jean Gray faces Juggernaught without his helmet, etc.

I too wanted to go with a focused character build with huge blindsides. But it got really complicated, and truth be told I got nervous about his combat longevity. So I Kept It Simple... so unbelievable simple that you will be amazed when you see the build. In the end, I'm having a great time with Fenris.

cheers

I guess I'm glad I missed the earlier post, and no, I don't want to know what it was.

One thing I was suprised at when you guys submitted your characters was that no one made a high Mind character, even just a skill monkey. Oh well, it puts that aspect of the game in my hands via NPCs, which is kinda fun.

Also, Protheuz and Saker, do you want a dedicated "rolling thread"? I hate to clutter the forum with additional threads, but it may make it easier to find rolls.

Either way is cool by me!
As it's you that have to search the posts ;)

Now seriously - Maybe a new thread titled: other fights or something where everytime any of us went solo we put there the rolls.

It seems you guys are having fun in your own right :P

I can actually see us (from what I know of the other characters) as an X-Man-esque team, just a little more "real world"... you know... real for people with supernatural abilities...
