All I am saying is that they are far more remembered as the JSA than anything else.
I understand that. However, they did change their name during the years America was at war, and using the word Battalion in their name didn't make them a military team.

Also, if you look at other teams of Golden Age supers formed from the Silver Age on, used names that were similar to Liberty Brigade. You had the Freedom Fighters in the 60's, then in the 70's/80's, you had both The Invaders and the Liberty Legion.

Now I'm not saying Liberty Brigade is the best name (I kind of wish I had included Guardians of Liberty or Guardians of Freedom in the poll, but I didn't think of those names at the time), but I honestly don't feel the name implies they are military.

Yet 99.99% of people don't know that they changed their name, which is the point I am making.

As for it implying military, that is a matter of opinion, which for me it does, that's all :D

I would disagree with that amount, based on the fact that

A) The name change was featured in All Star Squadron

and more importantly

B) This info is listed in the JSA's entry on Wikipedia. Since many people tend to go to that site for info, I'm sure more than 0.01% know they were called the Justice Battalion for a few years.

Now, I could see saying that at least 85% or more don't know, but 99.99% is a bit too high. People can get that info way to easily these days. Maybe 10 years ago I'd have agreed, but nowadays, I don't see it being that little known.

Not that it really matters in the long run :P

I hear ya. Even though it's in the lead, doesn't mean that is what I will go with. As I said earlier, Guardians of Liberty (or of Freedom) actually sounds better to me, and I wish I had included either option in the poll (had I thought of them at the time)

I think the debate about what the JSA is remembered as now is a little off message. We are talking about what this team will be known as in an RPG not what they will be remembered as 70 years later.
And the Fact remains that during the war they were the Justic Battalion, regardless of how they are remembered.

It mattered to me and was on topic since I was explaining why I felt Liberty Brigade was too military sounding and not a good lasting name for "THE" Golden Age team.

Your mileage may vary, no harm no foul.

So I decided on what to do.

The team will be called "The Guardians of Liberty". However, once America enters WWII, they change their name (as the JSA did) to "The Liberty Brigade" for the duration of the war.

In Modern times, a government sanctioned Liberty Brigade is formed, in reaction to all the threats America faces from terrorists, etc.

Seemed like a good compromise (while I would have used Guardians of Freedom, having them change to Liberty Brigade during the war didn't seem to fit)

Thanks to everyone who voted, and especially to everyone who commented. I truly appreciate it

Thanks. I like the name Freedom Society, but since M&M has the Freedom League, I wanted to try and use something that didn't have the word Freedom in it.

Since so many people liked Liberty Brigade, I figured I should use it for something

I used to have a Liberty Brigade in my campaign, they were the Invaders to my JSA called The Sentinels of America.

Now I use the Victory Squad and the United Sentinels of America (USA) as my two Golden Age biggies :)

Late to the party as usual, but spot on agree with the idea of the Liberty Brigade once America enters the war. Consider the idea yoinked!

Nice!

If this game runs at Recess, I have hopes that I will be able to play in it. (Wish Recess had pre-registrations). Between this thread and the sketches, it looks like it will be a great one.

I'm pretty sure the game will be run at Recess (I know my submission was made before all the slots were filled). I posted some of the characters in the builds forum all ready; once I get the art for the others, I'll post them as well. Hopefully I created the right mix of characters to make it an interesting enough session!
