Yeah, I just ordered a large amount of art from Joe again. About 20. Decided to have him redo the cosmic/space characters and add some more to the mix. I have an older version of Major Meteor that Kris Smith did, but Joe has a flair for the space characters, so I wanted him to do his take on themMrJupiter wrote:The comet guy sketch looks great. It will be great to see it coloured. Speaking of coloured, SIMIUS AND THE SUPER APES turned out fantastic!
I love that cover too. I also like how the logo is on the bottom of the image, and not at the top like you would usually see.

Which really works, since the character art was done by Kris Smith, whose style is sort of in the vein of the DCAU/Timm style.fairytalejedi wrote:What MrJ said. I love the lettering style for Simius and the Super Apes too. Kind of Saturday morning cartoon.
A new take on the mummy character. Turns out the first version looks too much like Mumm-Ra from Thundercats (which if I had ever watched that show, would have known myself). So now a new version with an Aztec slant:

Joe hit me with an blast of sketches a few hours after the revised mummy. Lots to share!

For those who remember, I ran a Cosmic level BASH One Shot called Plague of Darkness. Major Meteor was one of the pc's, and the moon creature Joe drew was one of the bad guys. I'm having Joe do the rest of the characters from that one shot (and more). First up, the Malevolent Moon's master, the Elder Evil:
The servant race it commands (based off original designs by CuMorrig & Russell Boyd):
Their fighter craft:
early concept for the alien cruiser. This will change, as Joe put the tentacles at the back, and they are supposed to be at the front:

Wow, urbwar, that's a lot of great art from Joe! I really like the Aztec slant on your mummy character. It is very fresh! The powered armor piece is really good and reminds me of what eighties-era movies would have produced. In real-world design, this is way more realistic than Iron Man's skin-tight suit that miraculously packs protective armor, mechanical servo-units/actuators, and complicated electronic circuitry into a few millimetres of material.
Star-Ghost looks really cool and his ship's design rocks (Space Ghost was such a great cartoon)! Mister Midnight looks like a real solid character design. It will be cool to see the staff added to the picture. Elder Evil is really great, though the hip looks a little funky (though I'm thinking that this is supposed to be like the jutting hips you see on extreme anorexics). I really like the staff and three-fingered hands of this guy. His tentacle-armed servants look great, as do their ships!

Yeah, I just placed the order last week on these, but since most are his interpretations of characters I have previous art for, it's not hard for him to bang out sketches.MrJupiter wrote:Wow, urbwar, that's a lot of great art from Joe!
Thanks. Sometimes an idea takes form, but it takes more than one try to get it right.MrJupiter wrote: I really like the Aztec slant on your mummy character. It is very fresh!
yeah, that's what I was going for. This suit is more of a mass produced armor (like the one on the previous page), so it's bulkier. The one 2 pages back might be more of an Iron Man styleMrJupiter wrote: The powered armor piece is really good and reminds me of what eighties-era movies would have produced. I updated the image to the sketch with staff added.MrJupiter wrote: Star-Ghost looks really cool and his ship's design rocks (Space Ghost was such a great cartoon)! Mister Midnight looks like a real solid character design. It will be cool to see the staff added to the picture.
I think I'm going to call the other guy Star Spectre or something like that. Star Ghost just doesn't have that ring to it
I always like how when I get an artist to do a new image of a character, they add on what the previous artist did.MrJupiter wrote: Elder Evil is really great, though the hip looks a little funky (though I'm thinking that this is supposed to be like the jutting hips you see on extreme anorexics). The original image didn't show the whole body of the Elder Evil, so Joe didn't have as much to work with. But the original was skinny, so I can see why he'd go that route.
The servants do look pretty cool. I love the fighter design too.
