Extreme Earth for BASH

Post by mikelaff2 »

(apologies if this is the wrong forum to talk about a new Kickstarter,. But since it was a Kickstarter for a setting that will support BASH - the Setting forum seemed most appropriate. If I'm out of line - I apologize.)

EXTREME EARTH: A DYSTOPIAN SUPERHERO SETTING is a supers campaign setting inspired by the Iron Age of Comic Books as well as recent television shows like HEROES, ALPHAS, and 24. It takes our world and imagines what it would be like if suddenly some people developed Super Talents (i.e. superpowers) in a world that has far fewer natural resources than our own. Then, it adds a layer of paranoia and corruption which affects all levels of society, which in turn leads to conflicts that further expend those limited resources. It blurs the lines between government, corporations, and the media, so every nation, corporation, and individual is out for themselves. It is a dangerous world where combat can be deadly even for those who possess superpowers. The result is a dark, dystopian world that isn't too hard to envision within the realm of possibility.

The EXTREME EARTH campaign setting is written by Joe Bardales with artwork and original concept by Jon Gibbons. There are seven different books for seven different RPG supers systems: the latest versions of BASH!, Bulletproof Blues, Fate Accelerated Edition, ICONS, Mutants and Masterminds, Savage Worlds, and SUPERS! We have assembled a team of conversion experts to make sure each of these different rules systems is properly tailored to fit the EXTREME EARTH setting. It will be published by Fainting Goat Games who have successfully delivered on two previous Kickstarters (STARK CITY CAMPAIGN SETTING AND CITY BUILDING TOOLKIT and IMPROBABLE TALES) and one Indigogo (JUSTICE WHEELS). EXTREME EARTH: A DYSTOPIAN SUPERHERO SETTING will be available from RPGNow in both PDF and full color print-on-demand as a premium edition softcover using high quality paper.

More info to come as we get closer to launch (next week!)

Jon Gibbons' artwork is fantastic for this project, which I believe has been his baby right from the beginning.

I love that all the major characters (including the "Wolfpack", 5 pregen sample heroes) get a complete art montage dedicated to them (see gunnery sergeant Daniel Knox, a.k.a. "Gunner" in the 3rd picture for an example).

thanks! Jon does do amazing work. He's been slaving away for over a year and a half creating the art for this project. It's going to be epic.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Extreme Earth's Kickstarter campaign in action. It's been fun working on the conversions for all the characters and it will be exciting to actually see this book finished!

[Repost from RPG.Net]
When I first coming across a website (thanks, I believe, to trolling the Atomic Think Tank forum at Green Ronin) with some great art and basic teaser information on a setting called Extreme Earth, I remember thinking that this would be a cool game setting to convert to BASH. I was amazed a few months later when I was approached by Mike Lafferty at Fainting Goat Games to be a part of the team of game system converters for this setting. I'm not sure if it was fate, karma, or just pure luck but I agreed and had a boatload of fun trying to match the vision for the setting by creators Jon Gibbons and Joe Bardales to the BASH rules system. I love the world that these guys have crafted.

Extreme Earth isn't a typical superhero setting. The supers of this world don't have earth-shattering powers or shrug off armor-piercing, machine gun rounds. These heroes bleed and die! If they don't have innate Super Talents then they are either equipped with bleeding edge tech or are trained to the peaks of human capability (or perhaps a mix of both). A Super Talented hero in Extreme Earth won't be your typical four-color super, he or she will come with a set personal baggage and must deal with the fact that their power makes them a recruitment target for every government, corporation and special interest group (including extremist terrorist organizations like MANTIS and Pantheon). In this new arms race you are an asset, not a person. You are a weapon leveraged by subtle, and not so subtle, safeguards to ensure your compliance by whatever agenda group is holding your leash. If you want to live for long, you'll have to play by the rules and pack away whatever boyscout morality code you might idealize: It's time to compromise your morals and get the job done.

This is Extreme Earth. Make your broken hero and follow your orders. If what they tell you isn't a lie, then you might just be saving your county's *! If they are lying to you... Well, hopefully you'll live to make them regret it!

we've had some requests to see more on the history/backstory of the Extreme Earth setting.
So - we're releasing this: the almost completely laid-out first chapter of the book.
It contains a bunch of new art, a timeline and a description of the current political environment on Extreme Earth with special attention paid to hot spots and crises.

The layout for this chapter is fantastic! It's fun to read the interesting twists in the Extreme Earth history timeline. The new art shown in this section is very evocative of the setting.
