Awesome Powers #4?

Post by Baelor »

Hey BASHMAN.

Any word on an AP #4 street date? No pressure intended. I am just curious.

I don't know about a specific date, but the powers are getting one more go-over. Once I'm satisfied that I'm not going to add any more (I thought I was done, but then the Gravity Powers kept pulling me back in) I'll re-do the random tables.

This volume also has a special new Advantage called Membership, that lets you join various elite organizations, which may have their own special advantages.

I am very much looking forward to that very Advantage, as well as the rest of AP4.

Thanks for the update.

In reading the description for KINETIC ABSORPTION (Awesome Powers 4, pg. 15) I realized something interesting. This power effectively acts as an envelope for two separate powers: Armor 3 with the Gradual limit and Resistance 1 applied to Knock-Back and Pressure. Armor and Resistance are not specifically "linked" together, but are arranged to work in unison (rather like having a Mind Boost power that is meant to help the damage modifier of a ranged Special Attack power for a character with a low Mind score).

I just wanted to say that this is a great concept; especially considering that this power group can also have a Link enhancement (as in the Kinetic Strength example highlighted later on in the Kinetic Absorption description). Does anyone have a name/label to describe a power with this kind of union? A Power Envelope? An Umbrella Power?

There is no name for it, Mr. J, because by RAW, you can simply have two powers.

But how about "Power Package". You don't get any discount on cost, but it is an additional power that makes the concept work when Multi-Power or Linked don't make sense to combine the two (for instance, why spend 2 points to Link a passive 1 point power to another 1 point power? Just take both powers for 2 points, and explain how they are part of a single power.

While you don't need special rules for this, you bring up a good point that this is something people might think about when designing powers. Maybe something to add to the "How To Create New Powers" section.

Yes, this is exactly what I was meaning: two unique powers that pair together, but are still separate, yet can be viewed as part of a unified whole under the umbrella of a descriptor name. There are a number of powers that I have assigned to characters that only only have an effect when another power is active.

For instance, I have a young hero named N-FORCER that can create a floating disk to stand on (the Hovering power). He also has Super Running 3 but it is limited to only applying to the movement of his floating disk. His hovering movement is thus increased from Agility x4 to Agility x7. This extra 'floating' speed is optional as Hover and Super Running are not Linked, but the two powers group together in a nice "Power Package" called HOVER DISK.
HOVER DISK Power Package: (3pts)
- Hovering (Agility x4 movement).
- Super Running 3 (+ Agility x3 movement) <Situational>
*Note: It wouldn't post properly, but the "Situational" limit listed in the Super Running power was "Situational: Only applies to Hovering movement". For some reason, only the first word between the "<" and ">" brackets would show...
