Masks was an 8 issue limited series released by Dynamite Entertainment.
The comic features a team up between various pulp heroes (The Shadow, The Spider, Green Hornet & Kato, The black Bat, an updated Zorror, Miss Fury) along with some actual super heroes like The Green Lama and The Black Terror.
It features art by Alex Ross, which I like, but am not always overwhelmed by. But the art in this is pretty good.
The story has the various heroes slowly joining forces to fight The Justice Party, who have taken over NYC and NY State, and inflicted new laws that have turned the state into a literal dictatorship.
I enjoyed it, but am not sure if it fits into the same universe as the Project Superpowers storyline (ie it could be an alternate to that setting). Sadly, not so much character development in the story, so if you don't know the characters all ready, you won't get much insight into them, save maybe The Shadow, who seems to stand out from the entire group (imho).
I got them on sale at ComiXology (Really love their sales, as issues drop to 0.99), and wish I could have afforded to pick up some issues of The Shadow & The Spider as well. Love the look of The Spider, which iirc, is different from his original look.
here's one of the covers for issue #1:

I agree. These mystery men heroes are really cool. I remember seeing a bit of an old episode of the Green Hornet as a kid but wasn't really turned on much by what I saw.
It wasn't until had seen a dvd copy of The Shadow (with Alec Baldwin) that my attitude of these old-time heroes changed. The newer Green Hornet would have been a perfect 10 for me if the goofy humor could have been muted a bit (though I'd still give it a solid 8).
The cover of this book looks great. I don't know who The Spider is but his costume is baddass!
