Well, I have played in the past with players that didn't really read any comic books or watched any of the old cartoons. Since they weren't much into Superheroes they were unable to write imaginitive origin stories.
Most of them resorted to the "mutant" card as a cheap escape. I am now looking for a superhero origin generator. Maybe a few dice rolling tables to get the juices going. Also if anyone can offer any other advice that would nice

Check out BAM #4. On page 9 is an article I wrote (called "BASHing Out an Origin") meant to help new players figure out some more interesting ways of developing a character origin story.
It has a number of random charts and breaks the ideas down into Biology, Super-Science, and Magic. I was still working from the original BASH rules when I wrote it or I might have tied it in better with the great information in Ultimate Edition.
You should be able to find BAM 4 on RPGNow.com or from BASH's home page: http://www.bashrpg.com/downloads.html
I hope that helps you.
