Go see the Avengers

Most of you probably will anyway, but I do recommend seeing the Avengers.

Very entertaining....and not "perfect", but well done and well worth the 2+ hours of your time.

Original plans for seeing it today (Friday) got canelled BUT we're still on for tomorrow... and greatly looking forward to it!

It's certainly a contender.

Though with like with most movies, the one you saw last is "the best".

I have to rewatch Iron Man 1, etc.

Also, I've got a fondness for The Rocketeer (which was based on a graphic novel).

I enjoy the new Batman movies, but for some reason don't want to watch them more than once.

Anyway, go see it if you haven't. (And I'm not a paid employee of Marvel).

Just got back from seeing it, and I found nothing wrong with it. Whedon managed to pull this off extremely well.

Now I'm so seriously jonesing for some nice straightforward Bronze Age superhero RP'ing.

Finally saw the Avengers movie and found it to be a worthwhile watch. I had gone into the show actually suspecting that, after all the Avengers tease from the prequel movies (Iron-Man I, The Incredible Hulk, Iron-Man II, and Captain America), the actual movie of my favorite comic super team would fail to impress me.

I had issues. Why Hawkeye and the Black Widow? Neither of them were the original team founders. After the disappointing rosters of the X-Men and X-Men: First Class (don’t get me wrong: I love those two movies), I just hoped that this movie would be a little more true to its origins.

Well. I can tell you that those two inclusions to the team’s membership really worked! They were not hopelessly outclassed by Thor, Hulk and Captain America. In fact these two “Normals” really helped to make the movie work for me. I suspect that their extra Hero Points had something to do with this (yes that was a BASH reference).

Over all, I was rather impressed with The Avengers. Oh, and do yourself a favour. Stay to the end. The very end! It will be worth it.

SPOILER: That doesn’t sound at all over the top does it? ‘Cause, though it is now the best movie that I have ever seen, I don’t want those of you who haven’t seen it to go in expecting even more than the incredible awesomeness it gives you - and walk away from the theater feeling just a tiny bit disappointed. I’ve had that happen before. For me, on a scale of 1 to 10, The Avengers was a definite 11!

I also came away appreciating how they used Hawkeye and Black Widow. And never being a fan of "archer" characters, they actually made his abilities believable.

Every character had at least one "cool moment" and despite some nit-picking it was one of the more enjoyable films I've seen in some time.

In my view a good action movie is entertaining if you can look past any flaws and just have fun - and I was certainly able to do that with this one.

Now to get BASHMAN to buy the Marvel rights.....

Agreed with all, I had a great time seeing the movie!
I kept wishing (and thinking) with Joss at the helm they'd drop more "in-joke" references ... He's always been fun with that. My thought, I'd have loved to either see a shot of Spiderman, Daredevil, etc... helping someone in the trenches of the war on Manhattan (just a pan-by of the camera) or maybe even Fury with an off-hand comment ... something like "Parker...? nah, he's not ready."

I also agree with the uses of Hawkeye and Widow. I loved the big spy angle they kept pushing. and especially with Widow foreshadowing from the opening scenes in her talk with Loki. Excellent stuff.

I also can't help but be rather impressed with the "big stars" playing amid the not-so-well knowns. Robert Downy Jr. especially! I also can't help but think that it was Downy that added in the little quips like "...tense up Legolas!" , "...okay Point Break..." (to Thor, referencing a similar look to Patrick Swayze and Tolkien's elf, and such - LOL.

And yes. I loved thinking about how BASH!'s Hero Points can mimic the power that help Cap, Hawkeye and Widow stand with Hulk, Thor and IM.

Simply cool.

Question about "rights" to such properties, if you're (BASHMAN) or anyone is aware.

Why not?

I assumed it was only through the big-biz of Hasbro for WotC to get the rights to Marvel... But then
How is it Margret Wise gets Marvel or Smallville (or Leverage, etc... for that matter)?
How did Green Ronin get DC?

I've been around some of those folks and some of those businesses. I've never asked them directly, but it makes me (now) HOW those "smaller" guys get the businesses from the big guys.

That said...
What about the other companies and characters? Why not shoot for those for a very cool IP?
What about:
Dark Horse's "stable" of characters?
Image?
or smaller like: Nocturnals or The Moth?
or old-old school like: Next-Men, or Jim Shooter's universe, or the Ultra-Verse (which is now owned by Marvel I think), etc...?

Heck!
Or why not approach the "old" Super Unicorn guys (the ones that designed the original M&M1e book, Gimick's Guide, and Crooks) for their roster of Universe.
Lastly... I hesitate to mention the V&V universe, because I've always heard that they were impossible to deal with. But bringing the V&V characters into a GREAT modern game system would be killer.

Why not?

It was fun at work explaining who Thanos was.

It was also funny listening to my coworkers nitpicks (how did Banner control Hulk at the end but not on the Helicarrier, etc.)...they did all enjoy the movie despite these "issues"...strange to be the least critical in a group for once

I guess they missed the part where BW tricked Loki into revealing he was manipulating Banner/Hulk, so it was likely the influence of either his magic or that staff that prevented Banner from maintaining control....

Well they're not "comic book people"...they're more "sci fi people" and "fantasy people".... so I have to cut them some slack.

Also they're computer engineers....so they're geared to finding problems. Not too mention we think we're smarter and better than everyone else

They're more forgiving of flaws (real or imagined) in Star Trek and Lord of the Rings. I can start a 2 hour debate if I through out lines like "Why didn't Gandalf just use a giant Eagle and fly to Mordor and drop the ring in the volcano?".

Could be! That, or Hulk still rages sometimes. Just because he was able to control it when he made a purposeful transformation doesn't mean that he can control it ALL of the time. In Champions terms it's called "Accidental Change When Threatened (11 or less) along with a "Berserk When Accidental Change Is Triggered (11 or less).

I too loved, Loved, LOVED the movie! I felt like I was reading comics in the late 1970s and early 1980s all over again.
