Sell me on BASH! Fantasy

Post by AngryGhost »

I know I've got a wait on for BASH! Fantasy UE

so for someone who has BASH! UE and BASH Sci Fi already is the older edition going to scratch an itch until that's released - for playing a setting like Skyrim/Hellfrost/High Fantasy

or could I get buy with melding something from the games I already own?

BASH! Fantasy will let you take what you get in SF and also adds:

Premade fantasy races
Hordes of fantasy monsters
Caches of fantasy magical weapons and equipment
Tomes of premade magical spells.

Fantasy genre ideas, from Steampunk to Samurais, Swashbuckling to Sword & Sorcery.

My group is having a load of fun using BASH Supers to do a high powered Fantasy game, set in a magical apocalypse in modern day Britain. We have characters that would be nearly impossible to build using most 'normal' fantasy rules.

I have used a bit of BASH Fantasy so far, and I intend to bring in more as time goes on. But the basic rules and character building is all Supers.

@Baelor

Something fun to do is drop a Fantasy monster "As Is" into a supers game. Don't bother with converting the stats. If the monster has Armor, just add it to their Brawn and roll soak like in BASH! UE (or use 5xBrawn+Armor for minions).

I did this for my group a few times, taking goblins, etc, as written and having them show up. They were quite scary; and the dragon that appeared at the end of the adventure was positively terrifying.

Cool! Thanks for the tip BASHMAN!

Ya know, I worked out my own dragons and such because it had not occurred to me to look in BASH Fantasy then.

I will comb through the Fantasy book for critters i can lift.

also, can I ask what the magic system is like?

is it for example easy to flavour (like special attack in UE for eg)

It was never available in print. I never got the file formatted properly for it, and I don't want to do it now because I'd rather start over and release an improved BASH! Fantasy UE.

BASH! Fantasy is pretty no-frills as far as production value is concerned. There is a "Printer Friendly" edition included with pdf purchase, which means you are only printing text and not artwork.

It works exactly like that. In fact, each "supernatural" power gives examples of flavoring that you might use to describe the power.

There are also "Colleges" of magic, divided up by themes, each with its own list of 10 or more spells. These spells are specific effects; so this is where you'll see "Fireball" and the like; but they're built using the same powers. So Fireball is just Special Attack bought with range and area.

BASHMAN - It's pretty good so far - I like the monster selection. I could see why you would want to expand to a UE version but I'm liking it.

If you had ALL the time in the world and could UE this and sci-fi, would you ever consider after all that, creating a monstrous undertaking of a generic "BASH Universe" book - something that would allow you to create anything on various scales with a bunch of settings thrown in?

-probably no, but BASH! UNIVERSE has an awesome ring to it...;-)

That it does, that it does.

The issue with the Heroic / Super Heroic scaling is not the stats. I can easily see those sliding on a genre defined scale. It's the rules for things like Soak and Wound Threshold that you'd need to worry about.

Now I could see having a "conversion guide" or something of that nature that explains how to switch from supers to heroic scale, or vice versa easily, though. This would probably be a free supplement.

BASH! UNIVERSE does sound cool! If BASHMAN doesn't want to use it for a consolidated rules set, he should definately consider it for campaign expansion for Megapolis (or evolve that city setting into a larger universal setting: complete with cosmic beings and interstellar races and nations - kinda like the whole Marvel Universe).

That would also be sweet (though that would sure be a major undertaking)!
