Anyone know hwere to find Endurance rules?

Post by MrJupiter »

Are there any endurance rules in the rulebook which cover things like how long a character can push themselves while running? How long can a character maintain a sustained run (Agility x3 sq). Sprinting is probably much less. I imagine that the Brawn stat might help (since it suggests the character's overall fitness level) and the Athletics (Running) skill would be even more so.

I ask because a villain I'm constructing is overweight and I'm applying the Physically Challenged disadvantage to her; thinking that she might not be able to Sprint and can only maintain a sustained Run for only X pages before needing to Rest of Push a Stat/Skill to continue. How long would seem reasonable? I'm thinking about 5 pages. I am out of shape and cannot run more than a minute or two before nearly keeling over and gasping for breath.

Any suggestions?

How about just applying a Brawn penalty that corresponds to the disadvantage. In the Physically Challenged Disdavantage it suggests that certain circumstances reduce a chosen Stat of a character with this disadvantage, with the circumstances depending on the type of disability.

The one in the book is an Agility of 0 for a paraplegic for doing things with their lower body. So using the same sort of yardstick, an overweight character might have B or A reduced for ANY roll requiring endurance, whether it is running a city block all out, or jogging back to town when their super vehicle breaks down.

Since the disadvantage also points out a good side [the paraplegic has Boost A when doing things that focus on the upper body] you could give an overweight character a bonus on swimming checks to stay above water, checks to pin an opponent when wrestling, etc. Whether you give an up side is probably dependent on the severity of the down side. And of course there would be a bunch o circumstances that would not be modified at all.

If you asking whether there is a hard and fast rule for this - I don't think so, since the disadvantage itself says to work it out with the GM. Bashman might have something though.

Great points Baelor. Both Brawn and Agility stats for the character are rank 1 so I don't really think a stat reduction will create the effect I'd like to apply to her.

The idea of applying a penalty to Athletics checks is brilliant! I'm thinking a -3 result penalty would be good and I deffinately agree that extra weight has an advantage in wrestling. Being overweight can be a killer on stamina (at least for me) but it deffinately helps to pin or move a smaller opponent around (though someone with Judo or Jujitsu knows how to turn that against you).

Thanks for the ideas.
