Megapolis: YEAR 2

Post by BASHMAN »

This is the place where I'll be making updates and announcements regarding Megapolis: YEAR 2. A number of the characters are updating to the new rules, and not only that, have adjustments coming in their story-lines as a result of the events in the first year (the Invasion from Dimension Zero, the rise of the Zoltharu Cult, and the Doppleganger War). We'll also see some new characters, and glimpses of other cities in what will be an expanded "shared universe" with some other cities (settings created by other people who want to join their setting into the shared universe- if you have a city you want to incorporate into the Megapolis storyline, we'd love to hear more).

So from time to time, I'll post updates to some of the characters here so you can see how they translate into UE, and what they've been up to.

Meanwhile, We are seeking submissions of ideas for the "Shared Setting" of Megapolis. Do you have your own Super City that you'd like to see be a part of the Megapolis Universe? If so, let us know about it. We're also interested in international cities- not just the USA.

These will be part of a chapter called "The World Outside Megapolis" which will highlight some major cities, and give a blurb on some of the supers who live there. Who knows- maybe later on, your city will have a book or suppliment of its own!

Cool. The world outside is a cool idea. Any comic book universe needs an undersea kingdom, and a secret place filled with dinosaurs.

Well Megapolis already had the secret dinosaur land- but only mentioned an undersea kingdom, without actually writing anything about it.

I don't set ETAs until the book is 90% done... Even then, it's a crapshoot. BASH! UE was in the can in July when I said that it'd be released in August. I had the manuscript written + all the art. And it took from August to late November to get the layout done.

This was the fault of my first 4 Layout guys. Yes. 4 of them. The first quit the day he took the job, but the second- (I almost wish I could sue him)- took the job, worked on it for a month, everything is going well... and he disappears from the face of the planet. Won't answer my emails, etc. So it's like 2 months between me hiring guy #2 and moving on to Guy #3 (who quit after 2 days), took a couple weeks to hire guy #4 (who quit after a week, due to losing internet access and living in such a tiny rural town that there was no public library, internet cafes, or Fedex/Kinkos store within 50 miles), and then it took me a couple more weeks to find & hire Ryan Lee who did an excellent job with the book, was very good at keeping in contact and updating me, and very helpful at fixing any bugs, etc.

I just wish I'd hired Ryan in July! If the book were launched in August like I planned, I'd be much happier.

But, yeah, it's too early for me to give ETA predictions. Right now I can predict that "Vengeance is Nigh" will be released this month, because it is in the can, I have all the artwork, etc.

One request, more Ra please! He seems to fill the niche of a Thor or Superman in Megapolis. I'd like to see more of his fellow pantheon members too. Perhaps even a corrupted member as a world class/cosmic villian!

Always been a big fan of mythology, including Egyptian mythology, had a character based on Thoth once.

Never read the original but i do have an idea. Different countries have different cultures and politics and so treat heroes differently. An excellent example is Sabra from the Marvel universe. Sabra is a mutant that works for Mossad, why? because in Israel 18 year olds are recruited to the army. The "supers" twist is that if you have inherent powers you are automatically recruited to the Mossad.

Think about it, that means that almost every mutant and most super powered citizens are registered. When registration hit the USA they got Civil War.

I gave this example because it is close to me but i think seeing heroes, organizations or even nations that treat supers very differently compared to the rest would be very interesting.

It's coming along very well. I already have 20 villains/villain groups statted up on character sheets with illustrations. The part that is taking some time is updates for the characters and the city itself. This will be more than just 20 villains in a booklet, it will be 50 pages of info about the city, the villains, etc. And that will just be the first offering for YEAR 2.

Hey Marve, I think this would make a great supplement for Megapolis. It could be part of a major component of the setting world-wide: detailing a fictional country or two (only about 2-3 pages in length), info on countries actively recruiting supers, the state of super terrorism (maybe), and samples of supers world-wide. Such a supplement could also offer a global year long campaign in the same style as the Megapolis campaigns.

Excellent. Would this British city be a full product in its own right (but still tied to Megapolis) as a separate suppliment or would it occupy some space in the Year 2 book istswelf?

That depends largely on how much material is made for it. As of now, it seems like it will be part of a supplement for the "World of Megapolis", essentially cities from other parts of the world that are part of the same shared universe, but outside Megapolis itself.
