Kev

I just did my Sky Marshall using your builder. Very cool. Several things:
1. How do you increase the skill die multiplier instead of taking a skill? Now it says x2+x1, which looks goofy
2. Is the origin always centered? It looks goofy to me.
3. Can you increase the font size of ads, disads, skills, etc? There's a whole lot of white space there.
4. Can you remove the gridlines in the template by filling the cells with white? It should copy and paste cleaner.

cheers

1. The way I did it was in the specialties space behind the specialties was to manually insert the multiplier you want, it shows up correctly on the sheet that way. I intend to redo that formula in the Bonus column when I have the time, because I also don't like how it works. I'll post the new formula here with instructions on how to change it when I do.
2. You can select the cell the origin appears in and under Home>Alignment you can change the justification and whether the text is printed in the top center or bottom of the cell.
3. I haven't figured out how to do that, without rewriting the entire sheet the font size is tied to the cell size, Fonts can't be made larger than the cells that contain them. My guerrilla edit, which I haven't done and am not %100 percent on what the results would be, would be to go in and show the grid lines, and headings if they are not showing but I think they are, the headings anyway. Then resize the lines containing the powers so they are the size you want then adjust the fonts so the fit again then go in and delete any unwanted lines so that it fits on a page again, you can check this with view>page break preview. You can then select the entire sheet you want and make sure that the print area is set the way you want with Page Layout>Page Settings>Print Area. This should work but I would definitely save a back up before trying any of this.
4. The gridlines won't (shouldn't) print or copy paste to anything you want to do, unless they have been outlined. If you want them to go away under your view tab uncheck show gridlines. If you can still see them go to home>Font(with excel 07 or 10, I think it's something else in previous versions, I don't remember) and select no borders, that should clear it up.

Hmm. It works for me. Don't know what to do.

It's posted on the Yahoo group where I think you were having problems downloading the builder software. Is there a connection?

Credit where credit is due.
I am not the originator of "THE AMAZING BASH! BUILDER". I'd say I might have 45% time invested in updating it. But the real GURU of the builder is Simpson (one of my Seattle pals and an sometimes forum-poster here). He is simply THE-MAN when it comes to the Excel builder. So while I've advanced some of his sheet, the original is his. Credit where due! :)

That said. I'll help as much as I can!

First.
What "version" of the builder are you using? You can see the "version" number either on the character sheet in the top right corner or on the very first tab called "How to".
The newest version I've updated is "4.20"

Which I can email to you (and anyone) or where ever you're getting the one you have from (is it a Yahoo site you can link me to?) I can post the file there.

I think you're looking for the "Bonus" column on the "SKILL" tab. I might be wrong - misunderstanding you...
Another thought. You might be looking to take a skill slot twice? If so I type in (overwriting the drop down) on the Skill column in the SKILL tab to read the name of the Skill and write in x2 (or x3, etc..) to note what my ACTUAL Skill multiplier is.
For Example:
Instead of using the drop-down that notes simply: Acrobatics.
I type-in: Acrobatics x4, so it shows in my Skill list on the Character Sheet what my actual modifier is.

You can change this easily yourself to format any way YOU like it. Simply select the cell(s) on the Character Sheet and format to Flush Left or whatever. Those cells aren't protected. The entire sheet is left largely unprotected to be able to adjust formatting and change text, etc.... Which is why you wanna be careful not to change things that accidentally erase any formulas that would break the sheet's functioning.

But a format change like that to won't hurt anything.

Saker wrote:3. Can you increase the font size of ads, disads, skills, etc? There's a whole lot of white space there.

Same said (as above) for formating the SIZE of anything on the final character sheet.
The CURRENT sizes/formats of everything are at base to allow the MOST information you might want/need for a character. But there's no reason you couldn't up the font size several points to read it better - IF you don't need that extra space.

Right now it's built at base for a character that might have MANY skills or ADs/DISADs. But if you're character only has 1-2 and doesn't need the space, just up the font size.

What I normally do is have a "BASE" version of the sheet that you never change, saved. Then I save out my new PC-Hero, that I CAN update/customize anything like that for printing of THIS single character.
Allowing me to start from scratch with any new character. Because the NEXT PC-Hero I make might have 10 Skills compared to the last that had 3.

make sense?

Saker wrote:4. Can you remove the gridlines in the template by filling the cells with white? It should copy and paste cleaner.

Yes.
Again. As above, simply format it the way you like.

Knowing *that*, I think you might have an older version of the sheet. In the original build test stages, I don't think Simpson had the cells all turned White to look good on screen.
Later versions do.
That said.
The gridlines, should NOT print or be an issue other than seeing them onscreen.

does that help?
other questions?

I'm not sure WHICH yahoo group you're referring to. Give me the link and I'll upload my newest version to the files.
