Re: Flurry of Arrows. I don't know if how I built this is technically by the rules, or not, but I really don't want to get bogged down in the book keeping of how many arrows she has or doesn't have. She's like a cowboy in an old western ( they never an out of bullets) .
However, her Flurry of Arrows is basically a way for her to do one last stand, emptying her entire quiver of arrows to cover such a large area. I put Same Source on anything arrow related (even the Bow itself...which is equipment, not a power) . So once she uses the Flurry of Arrows, she has no arrows left to shoot. Period. Until, she can obtain some more elsewhere.
Plus, it got rid of the explosive arrow. The only "trick arrow" she has now is the swing line. Everything else can be explained through her expertise with Archery, which is more in line with my concept. What do you think?

I've been wondering where those rules are. You can actually add quite a lot of granularity to the system with the adds after the multiplication, GURPS-style. That is, x2, x2+1, x2+2, x2+3, x3-1, x3, x3+1, etc. In fact, over in a different thread, this is how I modeled some of the subtle differences between period weapons. A .45 doing x2+1 dmg vs. a 9mm doing x2 dmg. Same for submachineguns. They shoot pistol bullets, but should do a little more damage due to the length of the barrel. +1/2/3 works really nicely for those slight shifts.Heroglyph wrote:3rd times a charm (hopefully) Not quite so min-maxed.

Yes, exactly. It's a messy way to write-it up, but it helps me with teh math when I am making characters. I'll make a cleaner version once finally approved.Guh. Here's the Heightened thread. The actual power is listed about 4 posts down by Dragonfly. However, I think the one BASHMAN finally settled on was a flat +3 result bonus

Not a problem. She's more or less good to go.Heroglyph wrote:Doh! I was editing it one last time when you responded. Here is the final version. For real. I promise![]()
No need -- I dig "Flurry" more than the explosive arrows, conceptually. Like you mentioned -- with tricks arrows, she sort of needs a source / supplier, which I suppose is a capacity the US Military can act in, but really it's more in-character to just have her doing tricks with "normal" arrows. If your not cool, with the "Flurry of Arrows" bit, then I'll just go with what was posted previously.
Just FYI on the "Heightened" thing, I'm on the fence. I like the ability to differentiate to some degree, but I don't know how I'm feeling about it as a power or change to the core ruleset -- as opposed to it just being an add from equipment or something. (Like brass knuckles adding +3 or something like that.)Lady Paramount (V3)

The more I grok the system, the more I think the kinds of subtle differences Dragonfly is talking about can be modeled other ways, especially with Boost. So keep the stat "normal" then Boost it by one to be "tough" or "fast" or "willful."
I think I'm officially undecided, but if you want to use the power for this go-round, I'm cool with it. I understand the logic, I just haven't decided in my games whether it's worth monkeying with the elegance and balance of everything.
I will say this -- if you're going to stick with just the +3 modifier, you could probably simplify the notation. Anyone familiar with FUDGE? You could use that half-step "+" rule. That is, instead of 1, 1+3, 2, 2+3, 3, 3+3, etc., the DM would be 1, 1+, 2, 2+, 3, 3+, etc.Priority x4

I like the power, but it seems like Large Arc might be a bit... much. In one panel she can attack up to like 15 people?! Hmm. I'd reduce, just because it seems a little overboard/goofy.Bow & Arrows Mutipower (8 pts total: 5+1 +2)

No argument from me here. No need to count 'em. Though I am going to try and think of the right mechanic for finding your quiver empty once in a blue moon...Re: Flurry of Arrows. I don't know if how I built this is technically by the rules, or not, but I really don't want to get bogged down in the book keeping of how many arrows she has or doesn't have. She's like a cowboy in an old western ( they never an out of bullets) .
Ahhh... now I get it. A last-ditch thing that empties out the quiver. I somehow missed the Single Use upon first read -- this makes me less worried about the size of the arc. Period. Tell you what, you're on the right track, but I don't know if this is the best way to model that all-out emptying of the quiver... but I have to head to my son's soccer tournament, so I don't have time to contemplate it now.
In general, I dig her and you're on the right track.
More later.

Yes it would work like binoculars, at altitude with starlight without clouds, etc. I thought nightvision was too high tech for the helmet. But if you don't think telescopic will have much effect, nightvision is more usefulPer the written rules, would the telescopic sight work at night, or would that require some sort of enhancement?
@bearded
Yes, that would be my creative and incorrect reading again. Earlier in the text it describes using your opponent's strength against him, so I guess I got carried away.It says your brawn is 1 higher it's a pretty broad leap to make that 1 higher than your opponents. By your reading the weaker opponent would always have the upper hand as long as they had MAM: Grappling style. So for example Bane can routinely out-wrestle Superman? I believe that is intended that your Brawn 1 becomes 2, 2 becomes 3, and so forth
Practice, practice, practice

After looking at the Autofire rules, another option might be:
"Flurry of Arrows"
Special Attack 2: Small Burst, Medium Range, Ammo Gadget (8 charges/day)= 5 pts total cost
possibly another limit, of requiring a skill roll at -1 Agility to hit (to reflect the auto fire rules of opponents being +1 to defend)
I'm leaning toward replacing all of the easily taken gadget limits, with Ammo gadget and losing the Same Source stuff. That will allow her a fair use of arrows, for arrow techniques and will alleviate (somewhat) having to keep track of how many arrows she has left, but still have some chance of running out.
I figure the three slots in the multipower with Ammo Gadget. combined with mundane arrows ( which I could put a limit of ammo gadget on as well) gives her around 30 arrows or so in her quiver, give or take a few, which sounds reasonable.
Still averse to the book keeping, but I'm game if you are.

Here is what I have some up with. I think it works. It tones down the original "Flurry of Arrows" and uses Finite/Same Source to emulate the possibility of running out of arrows.
"Special" Equipment (p24)
Bow X3DM, 20 Range (x5 to hit/x5 DM with Bow technique) * Carries both regular and blunted arrows in quiver.
Limits: Same Source, Can't be used at same time as multi-power.
**Since you can add enhancements to normal equipment, I figured it would follow that you could add limits as well.
Powers:
Trickshot/Special Arrow Multipower (8 pts total: 5+1 +2)
* "Flurry of Arrows" Special Attack 2: Small Burst, Medium Range, Limitation: Easily Taken Gadget, Same Source]=( 5pts)
* Pin Cushion: Weaken Agility 3, Mid Range [Limitation: Easily Taken Gadget, Same Source] (4pts)
* Swing-Line Arrow: Swinging 2 (8 squares) [Limitation: Easily Taken Gadget, Finite] 1pt *note +1 cost, due to different power category (2 pts)
Note on Arrow supply: with the Finite and Same Source limits, roll d6, if die is equal to or less than 2, then arrow supply is running short. If fail Finite roll three times/day, then out of arrows. All arrows would require this roll.

Oof. Long day.
Heroglyph, I hope to look at your final designs tomorrow.
kevperrine, I'm hoping to start the game "soon." I don't know if it will be this week (I travel for work this week, plus a few people still need to finish builds), but if not it should be the week following.
One thing caught my eye in your message -- the terms "play regularly" and "play-time details..." this is not some kind of live game played over the Internet using chat and conferencing applications and such. This is a play-by-post game, just want to be clear on that. It's all about the written word. Hopefully that's not a problem...

Hey Dragonfly, thanks for the catch.
I'll probably put the extra point, back into Martial Arts mastery (Wrestling), which I dropped at some point
In the meantime, here is a rough idea of how I am imaging Lady Paramount's costume. Been cobbling some stuff together in photoshop. It is still very rough and I am not sold on the green. it may turn out to be completely white costume, with maybe some color trim. Used Pocahontas' head, and Arrowette's body, and added some puffy sleeves for a vintage look. Can't see her lower body, but she will probably wear a skirt, to add to the retro look.

and for a more real life reference, I'm thinking she will most resemble the actress Q'orianka Kilcher

Just a quick update. My son's soccer team advanced in the tournament yesterday (cool!), so that means it won't be until tonight before I'm able to spend some time looking at builds and such.
But in general, I think this is our status:
Lady Paramount - final stages of her build, I need to review
Unknown Soldier - ready to go
Big League - haven't seen the first build yet, and Kev needs to speak up over whether the PBP style is what he was signing up for...
Sky Marshal - I think set, might look him over one last time
American Ape - all set
Cauchemar - pretty much ready to go, might look him over one last time
That everyone? The one thing you can all work on as well is previous connections to one another. As the game starts you'll have been marshaled by the US Govt, so I can see a few "Good to see you again," moments.
Edit: Also, cool beans with the imagery for LP, Heroglyph.
But in general, I think this is our status:

Lady P works as a Linguistics Instructor for the Defense Dept, so maybe she ran across someone there. If so, it would have been in her civilian ID.
Another possibility is previously working a case with one or two of the other characters. Couchemar, Sky Marshall, and Unknown Soldier all seem like they might work on street level stuff like her.
Maybe they all stopped a bank robbery together or something.
