Book of Powers

Post by AngryGhost »

I've probably asked this before, but I've not really been on for a few months.

I know there's a lot on at the moment with the reprint of BASH! UE, Cavalcade etc, but I was wondering if there's any further news on the book of powers that was being talked about quite a while ago - or are these powers now being added to the reprinted UE book?

That book is still being worked on. My goal is to finish the draft over the summer.

THere are some new powers in the new printing- but Awesome Powers will have hundreds of "pre-made" powers, Power Suites, Random Creation, etc.

Have you been accepting submission for this book, Bashman? Either for what people want to see, or actual powers worked out by member of the forums?

I hadn't thought of that, actually. I was just working on it myself, but I think that would be a good idea. I may start up a "Power building" thread here and another rpg forum to see what people have come up with.

I'll need to probably also post some of what I've come up with so far, regarding power suites and individual powers.

It would be great to see a number of "pre-made powers" to soak up character points of Brick-type heroes. They usually need fewer CP to build than others. I was thinking of things like those powerful claps which knock over so many of the minions.

But beyond this "Thunder-Clap" thing and mini-earthquakes caused by slamming the ground, I start to draw a blank.

I have been letting high soak character act as living shields for their more lightly armoured pals, as you often see in the comics. The brick spends a hero die to stunt, this allows his soak to sub in for those of the people he is sheltering. The individuals still take any damage that gets through, but he rolls the soak once for all sheltered attacks, using his soak.

It might be nice to have this as a power in itself.

The Living Shield is a pretty cool idea! The broader the hero, the more useful that could be.

I've found rules for Improvising Cover and Take The Hit on pg 21 but not much else for normal cover rules. I'm probably missing it somewhere, but knowing these basics would be handy for crafting unique cover-related powers.

This would be a very VERY neat thread to create. I loved M&M2e's Ultimate Power book, and the powers built were fairly standard (PS... if you're looking for powers to model with BASH! you could use that M&M book as an idea starter)

Anyway. As an example of a "covering" power idea I did this with my "Shield Bearer" hero - this is what I considered his shield abilities and my commentary:

SHIELDED (MP: Deflect 3) Doubles reflect.
PROTECT'EM ALL (MP: Force Field 3) Mind 1x10+90 = 100 HITS, 10 Soak. [3pts]
Concentration (full panel, only 1/2 move & acts last panel)
L: Gadget Ammunition Burn-Out Roll D6, result =>2: spent. [-1pt]

SHIELD BUILD COMMENTARY
Similar to the Attack portions of his SHIELD... I wanted some extra interesting Shield protection. I decided to make the Shield sort of "Ablative" with the Gadget Burn-Out Limitation... the idea being it always has a change to buckle and break.
Unlike Captain America's shield... his green star shield is NOT invulnerable at all. Luckily, if it breaks... he can go get another one in his storage pre-mades (which would likely take scenes/days in-game depending on the Narrator and story). But it's a BIG limitation. This MULTI-POWER set totals to 2 pts for either power, so anytime he uses THESE powers (below) he'll have to make a D6 roll, if he gets a 2 or less... the shield buckles and breaks! (luckily... his "Dumb Luck" might save him with a re-roll if he really needs).

Anyway... The powers in this protection portion of his Shield are:
SHIELDED (Deflect 3) and PROTECT'EM ALL (Force Field 3) Mind 1x10+90 = 100 HITS, 10 Soak. [3pts]

The idea being... Deflect as the "traditional" shield power and the addition of a "force field" with the idea that when absolutely necessary (hence Concentration) Shield Bearer can go "full defensive" and protect himself and others quickly rushing between attacks in the area to protect with his Shield as the description.

(OOPS! need to correct the power level by 1 to give it an area! that'd make it Force Field 2, Area Small Burst 2x2 sq for a field at 70 HITS).
Is that the kind of thing this power build thread idea would be?

A character doesn't have to use a Hero Die to take the hit- they can hold their panel to do this as well. Quick Thinking or a Hero Die just lets them do this without spending their turn.

Likewise, you can choose to act as cover for somebody else, effectively becoming a human shield (or they can say they are using you as cover).

Making a power specifically for 'taking the hit" though is something I can do. There was a power for this in BASH! Fantasy if I recall correctly that could be adapted for supers. It would be an Intense Training category power, probably something called "Devoted Defender" or something like that. Maybe "human shield" would be a better name for it.

I don't think it would work the same as the Fantasy version- this would be specifically for taking hits
