Question: Resistance (Impact)

Post by Dragonfly »

Hey guys,

I'm almost done with my slew of questions. Thanks for your patience and feedback.

Anyhoo - would you let a player buy a Resistance to "impact". The justification is that the character is a speedster and is therefore accustomed to the high impact stress of running at sonic speeds.

Makes sense to me, in some ways, but if you were to allow the power, what would you have it apply to? Would it only reduce damage from falling and running into things, or would it also reduce damage from punches, kicks and other blunt attacks?

What say you?

Best,

What do you want it to work on? I'd just buy it as Armor with a limitation that it doesn't affect energy damage. So it would affect falling, being punched, etc- but not fire, lasers, etc.

It is a proven fact that objects moving at great velocity seem to have a greater level of invulnerability (not the proper scientific term - but it conveys the idea). I watched a science type program a couple of decades ago where they fired a piece of chock straight through a chockboard. It's momentum sent it straight through and into the pillows behind so they could recover it: the chalk was largely intact!

I'd let him take it (or maybe even Immunity to impact damage) but with a limitation: only while using Super Running.

That would be pretty cool when trying to Body Slam with the help of the 'super movement and momentum' rules (pg 42 from previous BASH:UE rules) for extra damage and the opponent manages to get out of the way and, oops, Major Bad (the villain) was standing right in front of a brick wall.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Mr. Jupiter, I like how you think! I like the brick wall scenario. :)

BASHMAN, I considered the Armor route, and still might recommend it, but sometimes it has to do about how things "feel" in terms of mechanics. I kind of like the fact that the Speedster will have a Brawn 1 (hence a Soak x1) and Resistance 1 (Impact, Heat). Damage will usually get through, but it will be reduced. I know that Armor would effectively do the same, but it'll feel different and "neater" with the Resistance mechanic, methinks.

Anyway, both suggestions are helpful.

Best,
