I was actually planning to purchase BASH Sci-Fi before I, in essence, became ultimately consumed with BASH! UE! Sorry. I still plan on picking up the pdf sometime in the next couple of months. It's just that Ultimate Edition has grabbed me, creatively, in a way that hasn't happened since Villains & Vigilantes!

Those sound cool. While both types of settings might be considered more "pulp" than sci-fi to some, I feel they fit both genres equally well. I definitely wish there were more Sword & Planet type stuff (hollow earth settings seem more frequent, though still rare).BASHMAN wrote:A pulp-ish "Journey to the Center of the Earth" or Sword & Planet ala "Barsoom" type thing may be cool.
I once ran a mini-campaign of Angel with a sword & planet setting called "Under the Demon Star". Earth guy ends up in alternate reality (which in Angel is a demon realm), and the sun over the planet was actually a giant demon. You can do lots of cool variations with Sword & Planet

While I'm not a huge fan of giant robot fighting machines, I do love much of what this setting offers; especial the way that artificial gravity is handled.CauldronOfEvil wrote:Jovian Chroniclesjakspade wrote:Any other suggestions?

Okay, I'm still a little hazy on the whole Maximums and Minimums concept. Is there an actual point cost to these or do they cost a certain number of advantages/disadvantages? Or are they just arbitrarily "flavor" elements?BASHMAN wrote:I think that Small is just a die penalty on your Brawn, + Result penalty to Soak & Damage, and a Dice bonus on your Agility rolls. There are no races that have a -1 Penalty on stats- the way the game deals with it is "Maximums and Minimums" for certain races. For instance, a Human's max Brawn or Agility is a 4. A 5 represents something super-human. A race like an Ewok would probably have a Maximum Brawn of 2 or 3, and also be Small. But in BASH! SF, Small is a Disad, not a power, so you don't "pay points" for the privilege of being small.

They're guidelines on how to build your character, essentially they tell you what you can and cannot buy; but you have to spend the points. For instance, if you build a Human character, you cannot have a Brawn of 5. If you build a Dwarf, your Brawn must be a minimum of 2, and you must buy Super Senses 1 (Thermal Vision).jakspade wrote:Okay, I'm still a little hazy on the whole Maximums and Minimums concept. When Worlds Collide
After Worlds Collide
Excellent Science Fiction / Space Opera opportunities in this type of setting.

If I had the time I'd convert Ring World to run in Bash! Sci-fi.
I'm currently working on converting the Stephen Hunt novel - 'Secrets of the Fire Sea' into an intro adventure for sci-fi. The original story is steampunk but it's too good not to hack.
I got my copy post free from Lulu - there was a code for free postage.
