Proposed Advantages and Disadvantages

Hey guys,

What do you think of the following?

Advantage: Prehensile
The character possesses one or more prehensile appendages. This could be prehensile feet, a tail, tentacles, etc.

Disadvantage: Limited Mind
The character's Mind score is limited in some way. The character suffers a -2 Multiplier to Mind Checks that fall outside of his or her speciality. The exact nature of the limitation is determined at character creation.

Example: Brilliant roboticist Vincent Knight built himself a power armor suit to battle crime as the Black Knight. He has a Mind 4, but the Disadvantage Limited Mind (Science and Technology). When dealing with anything related to his chosen fields, the Black Knight has a x4. His non-science and technology rolls, however, are all made at x2. (This includes his Mental Defense.)

Example: Doctor Mystic is a powerful Wizard. He has a Mind 5, but the Limitation Limited Mind (Magic and Mysticism). When dealing with anything related to his chosen fields, Doctor Mystic has a x5. His non-magic and mysticism rolls, however, are all made at x3. (This includes his Perception Checks)

Thanks in advance!

Best,

Dragonfly

I think the Limited Mind thing is a backward version of Boost.

You could easily make a character with a Mind of 2 or 3, but with Boost (Mind: Science and Technology) to give him genius levels in that area.

This is true, and it's how I used to do it, but there are a few issues with this:

1) People think I'm nuts when I tell them that Reed Richards should probably have a Mind 3 with Boost 2 (Mind - Only for Science and Technology). They always say - "Yeah, but he's Reed Richards! He's gotta have a Mind 5!" :) I'd go with it anyway, BUT -

2) Building someone like Reed with the Boost option means that the character starts off with fewer skills and fewer bases, meaning that he has to spend an inordinate number of points to get his Science and Tech skills where they SHOULD be. It's just inefficent.

I figured the Limited Mind option would be a way around this. I don't, however, like the name "Limited Mind". :(

Anyway, thanks for your feedback on this. Any other thoughts?

Best,
