How do you feel about adding ½ of growing weight directly to the character's Brawn lift? (read below)

Hey, it's just fine the way it is. Don't mess with perfection...

Poll: Making GROWING characters stronger.

Post by MrJupiter »

Have any of you made a character with the GROWING power and a base Brawn of 2 or more? At Brawn 2 and Growing 1 you double your size and get to lift 100 lbs more. Not bad... The same character, but with Brawn of 3, sees no change in lifting ability despite being twice as big. Hmmm...

Wouldn't it be cool to see your GROWING character be able to add half of his new weight to his base lift?

It doesn't change much at Brawn 1 but at Brawn 2 a Growing 1 character can now lift a whopping (400+500=) 900 lbs and almost 1.25 tons at Growing 2.

Higher growth levels are meaningless for low Brawn characters and higher Brawn characters would notice little difference at low Growing levels.

For the most part, a character being able to lift Brawn plus ½ their Growing weight, will have little real impact on game-play. It’s for those few PCs at the low end of the scale, where this could be meaningful (and yet not unbalancing): and also happens to be an easy system to figure out.

Here’s how it would play out*…

B1 (50+ lbs)= G1 (550 lbs), G2 (1.025 tons), G3 (5.025 tons), G4 (25.025 tons), and G5 (75.025 tons).

B2 (400 lbs)= G1 (900 lbs), G2 (1.2 tons), G3 (5.2 tons), G4 (25.2 tons), and G5 (75.2 tons).

B3 (7 tons*)= G1 (7.25 tons), G2 (8 tons), G3 (13 tons), G4 (32 tons), and G5 (82 tons).

B4 (50 tons*)= G1 (50.25 tons), G2 (51 tons), G3 (55 tons), G4 (75 tons), and G5 (125 tons).

B5 (200 tons*)= G1 (200.25 tons), G2 (201 tons), G3 (205 tons), G4 (225 tons), and G5 (275 tons).

*More-or-less. Assuming: “Several tons”= 7 tons; “Tens of tons”= 50 tons; and “Hundreds of tons”= 200 tons. Your estimations may vary.

I think you are attempting to clarify how the +5 damage from growth and density increase affects lift capacity, right? It obviously should.

Your "half the character's new weight" guide seems good. Instead of math, maybe just craft a clarifying sentence to insert in the rules for lifting, growth, and density increase.

cheers

Yes, Saker. I'm looking for some way to account for how the +5 modifier relates to extra Lift. The Heightened power multiplies your lift by three, but such a strategy would make Growth/Density Increase 5 a little insane. Besides, Heightened is only a one-time change for any stat it’s applied to. Growth and Density Increase offer a whole lot more per level.

Maybe set increases built into the chart would be an easier way to go. Instead of integrating “your lifting capacity is equal to ½ of the Growing / Density Increase weight for your level plus the Lift of your Brawn” into the description, you could just list the amount in a column of the chart.

G1: 500 lbs + Lift.
G2: 1 ton + Lift.
G3: 5 tons + Lift.
G4: 25 tons + Lift.
G5: 75 tons + Lift.

That’s definitely easier to articulate, but still has math.
