Disintigration?

How would you model a character with any type of "disintegration" ability?
From a a Romulan's Disintegration Pistol, to Darkseid's Omega Beams, to Matter-Eater Lad's ability to eat anything?
NOTE - you might have very DIFFERENT ideas for either of those examples, but I'm looking for all sorts of ideas on how to effectively model disintegration!! hehe
thanks!

Cosmic levels of Special Attack with the Annihilation enhancement should do the job pretty well.

Besides just doing loads of damage (Special Attack).
Besides going Cosmic Levels.
Are there any other ideas/ways? I ask specifically for a character like Matter Eater Lad. How would you model him?
thanks!

Interesting question Kev. I agree with BASHMAN that for Darkseid's beams or a pistol, the annihilation enhancement seems best (as they are attacks).
As for Matter Eater Lad: I'd suggest the alternate power of Transmutation. You transform said material into something else (ie edible), but would limit it that only the character can eat the materials (ie the personal limitation)

Specifically for Matter Eater Lad? How about:
Super-Eating: Special Attack 5 (+5 Damage, Enhancement: Extra Effect vs. Armor, Limitation: Only vs. Things He Eats), 5 pts.
You can couple this with a Boost (Mind) or a Boost (Brawn) only for damage with his super-eating - enough to get him up to Damage x10.
A character with this power is doing 75 Hits on an average roll, which is enough to eat concrete, plexi-glass, thick wood and thin steel instantaenously. It's also enough to take a nice chunk (bite?) outof an I-Beam (20 Soak and 80 Hits). Heck, a person with this power could eat a chunk of Unobtanium in about 3 seconds. That's longer than it takes me to eat a hot dog.
The limitation is there because the power isn't easily used in combat. You'd have to grab and then bite, rather than just strike with the attack.
Best,
Dragonfly

hehe... I actually thought of that as well. The hick-ups:
"The transformed object will retain similar mass & size as the original, and will revert to its original form at the end of the scene or when you will it to return to its original state."
Otherwise - this is probably a more simple solution than "Super-Eating" built by Dragonfly. Although (to be honest) HECK YEAH Dragonfly!! I love that build idea. hehe
Since I love the help here's a very VERY 1st version (will be making the image into more of a "super-suit" for him) of the character this idea is for...
the Devouring Dino-Head!
I really REALLY wish I had a local home game group to play supers gaming with right now!!! hehe
LOL

I love this.
but... correct me if I'm wrong - on average wouldn't it be more like:
Would devour an I-Beam (20 Soak and 80 Hits) in about 10 seconds.
(average 70 Dmg over two rounds, taking an I-Beam to -20 Hits)
Would devour a chunk of Unobtainium (40 Soak and 160 Hits) in about 45 seconds.
(average 70 Dmg over 6 rounds, taking the chunk to -20 Hits)
Then again - I'm not sure if I could reasonably eat (or want to eat) a hot dog in less than a minute anyhow. LOL
this is fun.

Which can be countered by adding the extended duration enhancement. Even extra effect can extend duration for non-damaging powers (as described in the second paragraph of that enhancement). So you see, it's not really an issue at all
If you want to get really quirky, you could use some form of dimensional teleport, so that instead of actually eating anything, it's moved to a pocket dimension or something.

I was thinking.... "Continual Damage" would model this better, since he's STILL EATING each round.
BUT then with that power (unlike Special Attack) you don't add your BRAWN as the base multiplier - so you couldn't BOOST Brawn up to make the Damage x10, allowing the "UBER-CHOMP" (that's what I'd name the power BTW, hehe) more quickly in less rounds...
Then again - that might be okay, to simulate the time it takes to eat ... while STILL devouring an I-Beam in under a half minute and that chunk of Unobtainium in about a minute and a half! LOL
hmmm.... That might be a better way to go. Because it only needs to attack to hit once, if attacking someone trying to get away... Rather than Special Attack which would need to attack each round.
Okay!
Knowing that this is for a bulky dude (something like a sumo wrestler) with the head of a T-Rex - and his attack "style" would be to do a Lucha Libre run-jump onto an enemy and then start munching! Which do you think would be better?
thoughts?

heheh..... I *LIKE* quirky! But I also like an "elegant" interesting solution alot of times, over the more simple (I'd almost say boring) "Special Attack".
That said.
This is a neat idea. Maybe something like:
UBER-CHOMP (Dimensional Teleportation 1) Concentration. [1]
E: Usable on others. [1]
L: Only affects others. [-1]
L: Situational - to eat must "Grab" target. (Brawn/Agility contest) [-1]
L: Tiring (cannot use 2+ pages unless pushing) [-1]
TOTAL COST = 1
(since the extra Limitations won't lower below 1)
I like a few things about this build... I like:
- "Concentration" mimics the time it'd take to eat a little bit.
- situational to "Grab" maneuver is choice of Brawn/Agility contest rather than just normal HtH Agility vs. Defense.
- "Tiring" is not necessary, but fun to consider...
"Oh man I just can't eat anymore, ugh..!!"
- I also like the idea that putting the item or opponent in a "dimensional" space allows a living opponent to "go someplace" rather than just take damage and die. Any object would just get dumped in there and never return (unless someone went and got it!) which could be more fun than just destroying it ...
BLUE RING:
"CRAAAAAP!!, the danged freak ate my power ring!!"
DR. DETECTIVE:
"...hmm, I've been considering old chum... at the rate Dino-Head devours material, I would wager that his intestinal powers may be shunting said material to a ... 'stomach dimension' rather than sheerly digesting. So perhaps your ring, the source of all your power, is NOT lost! However... to test this theory - you may need to allow the devourer to ... consume you. It's a chance I'd take if I were in your powerless shoes!"
Moments later!.....
Wiping an acidy-slime from his eyes, while wringing out his cape...
BLUE RING:
"BLAAAHHH!!! I can't believe I let that.... HEY!! I'm... I'm alive?!?!!! I'm... .... .... where... where AM I...???"
Sweeping his head about a strangely claustaphobic, yet rolling-hill 'land', of a nebulous Seussian cave-like 'dimension'. The pepto-bismol pink pitted landscape... more like the texture of the surface of a colossal tongue!!
Then slowly seeing remnants of items long eaten - car doors, mailboxes, parts of walls, an occasional I-Beam, bank vault doors!! All sunken into the doughy ground....
"This is gonna take FOREVER to find........."
Then it his the BLUE RING...?
'How the heck will I get back?!??........
thoughts?

I like it. Ironically, I was working on a villain design using M&M 2nd with matter eating (the kind that lets you store stuff). So, what if the eater wants to recover something they ate (say they rob a bank, "eat" all the money, shunting it to this other dimensional space, then retrieving it later)?

Simple.
Hero Die - Power Stunt: "Bulimia". LOL
Seriously...
HD to remove the "Only Affects Others", so that he could then "get" the item(s). But describing it as not actually going into his own tummy dimension (that's just silly!) but literally vomiting it back up! heheh.... EWWWwwww!!
OH MY GAWD, I LOVE THIS (stoopid but Golden Agey fun!) Villain Power!!!

Hey Kev,
I guess it depends on how long a panel is. I thought I saw a post from BASHMAN at some point saying that a panel was "about" a second.
Best,

I was playing with the idea of a dimensional teleport at first too, but decided against it. I like the alternate power of transmutation idea, BTW.

Just a note: A "round" is called a "Page" and a page lasts about 1 second in duration.
Other options for Disintigration is Dimensional Teleportation: [usable on others] which transports them to a dimension called "Oblivion" where there is nothing there but them.
Super Eating: Special Attack 5 [Extra Effect vs. Inorganic Material] LINKED with Jaws of Steel: Boost 3 Brawn for biting. 8pts
You would do x12 damage biting things like I-beams and unobtainium bars. That is an average of 90 damage per bite, and you don't even need to go Cosmic.
