Space Enhancement on Flight?

How does the SPACE Enhancement on Flight work specifically with it's cost?

When I BUY Flight as normal at whatever 1-5 rank/cost I want, then add the Enhancement of Space for 1pt, does it automatically make the LEVEL of "Space Flight" to whatever my Flight rank is?

Or do I need to buy the Enhancement Space for each level I want in "Space Flight"?

For example:

Flight 4 [4 pts] (20 sq; 100' per Panel)
Enhancement: Space [1pt] (4 Grids; To the moon, hundreds of thousands of miles per Panel).

OR is it....

Flight 4 [4 pts] (20 sq; 100' per Panel)
Enhancement: Space [1pt] (1 Grid; several hundred miles per Panel).
and if that's so... THEN the cost would be:
Flight 4 [4 pts] (20 sq; 100' per Panel)
Enhancement: Space [4pt] (4 Grids; To the moon, hundreds of thousands of miles per Panel).

AND....
Is that "Space Flight" speed ONLY in non-atmosphere?.... Meaning, the 1 Grid Space Flight still can ONLY fly the 20 sq (of their normal Flight rank) in atmosphere. But once in space, they can go several hundred miles per Panel?

SIDEBAR: which if that's true, it reminds me of IronMan flying straight up into orbit to of Earth, then coming "back down" to cross continents in minutes... hehe...

Hi Kev,

I was using option two for a long time, but then a reread of the rules led me to believe that it works like your option one, and that's what I use now.

I'm curious to hear the official ruling. :)

Officially it is just +1 point.

Allowing people to use Space Flight in atmo is up to the Narrator. I don't allow it, myself, though.

I allow it for non-combat purposes - otherwise I end up with characters that don't function quite as well as they do in the comics. I assume, however, that movement is about the only thing a character can do at these speeds. Searching for somebody, fighting, and doing much more than moving in a straightish line is really kind of out of the question. Characters moving at these speeds also present great opportunities for requiring Athletics checks to not bump into things. Again - these are my Champions roots showing - where Non-Combat Movement (NCM) was an option from 4th Edition on.

That is a good way to handle it. For fast travel, I usually allow the characters to do a "Jump" where they basically fly straight out of atmo and then straight back in where they want to go on earth. So it can be used to travel anywhere on Earth, but you aren't causing sonic booms shattering windows, etc. Otherwise, I know people would do that, using their "wake" to attack enemies... regardless of the horrendous collateral damage.

Yeah, I see how that could happen - and it doesn't necessarily help to say, "well - if you do that in my world, you'll have the authorities after you," because that can put a damper on the story you are trying to tell - unless you and your players WANT to deal with that sort of issues. I'm very fortunate to have a group that is reasonable about that sort of thing - but not everybody does.

What if I have a character that flies at Speed 7 in space? Do I buy his Flight at 7 (even though the book says 1-5 pts for Level 1 to 5) for 7 pts? (I understand that then there is an extra +1 pt cost for the Space Enhancement.)

You'd buy Flight 7 + Enhancement: Space for 8 pts.

In the Cosmic section, it says you can buy powers beyond 5 points when you need to allow it. Also, Teleportation is listed as going above 5 points; the Space Enhancement basically can allow flight to work like Teleportation; but only while you are in space (a warp drive type effect).
