odd build - multipower with super speed and confusion

I'm not sure how this should work. I want a character who can cloud men's minds. He can use this to make himself invisible unless he attacks, or to make himself harder to be hit.

To be harder to hit I want to use Confusion. It will give a dice penalty to anyone attacking him, but it takes an action to activate. So I want to buy super speed that works with it, so it can be used to activate it as an extra action.

I'm not sure how to put super speed and confusion together in a multipower with invisibility. So I'm going with linked. Does this work?

Multipower 4pts
Invisibility 3
Super Speed [limitation: only to activate Confusion], Linked: Confusion -4 dice penalty to attack the character

Hmm...I'm thinking that it might be more elegant to buy one rank of the Enhancement Extra Effect to negate the need of an action to activate the power. BASHMAN has expressed an interest in broadening the uses of Extra Effect, but I don't know if this would qualify. Your solution would work too, I think, but it might be a bit more complex than necessary, if the Extra Effect option is viable.

Best,

Well, don't forget that if you buy Confusion in a way that it affects anyone who attacks you, that it lasts for a duration (more than just the page you turn it on). So you could use Confusion to cloud their minds from attacking you anyway. It's just that turning it "on" would take a panel.

But using super speed linked the way you have would work.

As for "Extra Effect" as an enhancement; actually I'd make it be "Second Nature" instead- as that enhancement is having a slight alteration to its own wording as well. Essentially any power that is inherintly limited can be made easier to use by taking Second Nature. So it changes Maintained to Sustained- but also can be used to buy off Tiring, etc.

so Second Nature would allow you to use a power that requires activating but not targeting a foe as a free action - excluding healing?

It isn't explicitly stated that way, but as a Narrator, I'd allow it. In the build, I'd put an asterisk next to the power explaining the use of the enhancement. "Extra Effect" might make more sense, though, now that I think about it.

I don't like Extra Effect for it, since it doesn't change the effect it changes the activation.

Second Nature makes more sense to me, although even that does not change how it activates.

either way works

Here's another thought: Take the "Quick-Thinking" advantage so that you can just use the power as an interrupt action w/o using a Hero Die for it.

interesting idea. But I want to be able to switch between invisibility and confusion multiple times in a scene. The character goes invisible to move around, then goes visible but with confusion to attack, goes invisible again and moves.

Could you take Boost (Agility for Def only) to mimic being harder to hit because of some confusion effect? That way you don't have to mess with activating the power?

Why not take "Extended Duration" for your Confusion power? then you can "turn it on" whenever you enter the scene (as in, just before the scene begins). With a long enough duration, your confusion could concievably last the entire scene as a sort of "passive' effect. While Invisiblity is up, it essentially cancels the Confusion (this can be a limitation on Invis.).

the confusion is in a multipower with invisibility. I would assume that the confusion goes off if you switch it off in the multipower.

I could take boost to Agility for it, which would be easier I suppose.

That works. I've made characters with the "Super Luck" power represented as any of the following:
Confusion
Danger Sense
Deflect
Boost

Depending on what I wanted for the build.

But my suggestion about extending the duration was for "isntead of" doing a multi-power.
