Clarification on Inherent Enhancements / Disadvantages

Post by Lindharin »

Hi,

This is another topic we've been discussing in AslanC's play-by-post OOC thread.

Specifically, if a power has a disadvantage listed on the first line, like Force Field has Concentration and Super Speed has Tiring, are those mandatory inherent disadvantages already included in the cost of the power, or are they optional disadvantages and you can get a character point back if you choose to take them?

More generally, are all the enhancements and disadvantages listed next to the power costs inherent and included in the cost? For example, when Special Attack has "Range" and "Area" listed next to its cost, does that mean it automatically has the Range and Area enhancements (which is different than actually buying increments of range or area)?

For more details at what prompted the questions, the original discussion started here.

Thanks!

They are mandatory and included in the power's cost. At the Narrator's option, they can choose to allow an enhancement to negate them.

In a sense, yes, if something says "Ranged" or "Area" it does already have the enhancement- all it needs is for you to put points into it for the range increments.
