Character Improvement Idea

I saw this idea in another game, and thought it was a good idea to adapt to BASH!

Basically, there is no XP in the standard sense. If you like your character as is, that's fine.
You can choose to improve through power stunts. If you spend a Hero Die to use a power stunt to mimic another power, make a note of it, and put a check mark next to it. Every time you repeat that stunt, do another check. When you reach 10 checks, you can add that power to your list of standard abilities.

For skills, effectively you can use the same method, but you are using it to gain the Skillful power.

Raising stats is a different issue. Stats aren't really normal stats like other games, more like categories. So it doesn't make sense for your Brawn 2 weightlifter to be able to work his way up to a Brawn 5 super dude who juggles tanks. But you can certainly buy the Heightened power.

This method could also work for techy characters. Just assume that the Hero Die bought uses were you trotting out buggy prototypes that aren't perfected until you buy the power completely.

Using this method assumes you are actually spending the Hero Dice, not getting the free power stunt from the Versatile advantage.

Any thoughts, criticisms or other ideas?

I really like this idea; especially when you specify that it must cost the player the Hero Die rather than using Versatile advantage.

Yeah, I thought of that while I was writing it. Otherwise the Versatile advantage would be the equivalent of free XP.

I am trying to think of some variation on this to deal with advantages and disadvantages, enhancements and limitations. Buying new ones and buying off old ones.

I was thinking of expanding power stunts to allow for this, and maybe only needing five check marks.
This, like the main method, would always be subject to GM fiat.

Any thoughts?
