Hi,

Say a player puts up a force field and over a series of attacks it is finally destroyed.

Can you use the entire of next turn to recreate a new one of the exact same potency or does it take a while to regenerate?

Cheers,

Steve

You can re-make it; but don't forget that it has the Concentration Limitation built into it- meaning the person cannot erect a new Force Field until the very end of the page. This means then that opponents get an entire page to hit this person before the new Force Field goes up.

Unless, of course, you have the Second Nature enhancement attached to Force Field.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I feared this was the case, I am running a mystery man level game and I may need to add a limitation to this to tone it down.

You can simply disallow the Second Nature Enhancement for Force Fields. That is an easy fix.

Another thing is remember to think Outside the Box. Physical attacks cannot go through force fields (and that goes both ways) but mental ones can. So Telekinesis, Daze, Confusion, Mind Blast, etc. will all still work through it.

Yeah the problem I have is it's a mystery man level game.

So a lot of the baddies are norms, thugs, pirates, soldiers, assassins. So apart from the assassins they have fairly limited attack options. (flintlocks, blades and bludgeoning weapons)

So its just trying to get the balance right, I am pondering armour, deflect or force field.

Thanks for the response.

I had a similar situation in a street level game a while back. For the first encounter with a particular gang of cutthroats, I let the Force Fielder have it all her own way, and she had fun with all the bouncing bullets and ineffectual cudgels and machetes. Thew next time the same bunch came at her, they were led by a boss with a few smarts. The thugs wailed on her until her field came down, and the boss and another thug went to town with their delayed actions. Almost took her out in one round. By the time she got her field back up, the player was sweating and on the edge of her seat.

The player thought it was great. She still got to toss people around with her TK while she was protected, then got a real rush when she realized that she was in real trouble. The character got through it, barely, and the player was busy coming up with tactics to avoid a repeat.

If the baddies are having trouble getting anything through the force field, The gang and mob rules can up the damage and make bunches of attackers easier to deal with. Another possibility is to reduce the Soak of the Force Field [to a flat 5, or something like 2 per point in force field, etc].

Cheers for the feedback everyone.

Some really useful stuff, I love to hear how other peoples games play out.
