Knockback and Collateral Damage?

I a bit confused about this two. In the secion explaining knockback it states that if you are knocked into an object you should just take falling damage equal to the distance you were knocked back.
On the Collateral Damage section there is a combat example with knockback, yet it seems the characters do not take te falling damage. It is also insinuated that if the object breaks there is no damage? Shouldn't you take damage from an object you are basicly thrown to, even if it breaks?
