Hero Points & Dice?

How often can a PC spend a Hero Point? How many per panel at one time? When can Hero Points be spent? Can a PC spend Hero Points when its not their panel?

same questions for Hero DIE...
How often can a PC spend a Hero Dice? How many per panel at one time? When can Hero Dice be spent? Can a PC spend Hero Dice when its not their panel?

Can a PC spend a Hero Die one-afyer-the-other in a row for the same thing? Such as spending one to gain an extra die (3rd die) to add to their 2D6 multiplier dice... then if the check still fails, spending another to roll another D6 to multiply?
or
must they (or can they) spend Hero Points to make up the difference?

thanks!

Good questions :)
We play you can only add hero dice to a roll, but spend as many hero points as you want in a panel. Also we allow spending multiple hero dice for power stunting and such. I can't see a reason for limiting the number per page or panel.

I think a character can use hero points any time, otherwise they couldn't pull "Whew, that was close"

Yes. That's one of the reasons I'm looking for some more experienced folks (that've tested it) for some definitive idea/answers.

Because here's my "issue".
I have a player that (to his credit) has started figuring out the "economy" of Hero Points vs. Hero Die spending. To "game the game" and get the most of the rules - he's learned that it's much more beneficial (a better percent chance) to spend a Hero Die for:
“Never underestimate me!”: Roll another die and add it
to your regular 2d6 roll. If this die matches either of the other
two, it counts as doubles, and you may roll another die and
add it, continuing until the last die rolled doesn’t match.

Greatly increasing the "End Result" total by a factor (another entire die multiplier) INSTEAD of using Hero Point only 1-for-1 to try to meet/exceed the Difficulty Number necessary.

I thought I'd seen or read the idea that a Player may ONLY spend one Hero DIE for this action (or any single action) on their Panel (unless it's using the HD to "interupt"), but could not spend another for the exact same thing.

For example...
In our Issue today the player needed to get 14 more points for his End Result [total 36] to match the required Difficulty Number [total needed = 50]. Rather than spend (waste) 14 Hero Points (2 Hero Dice + 4 more HPs) he asked to spend a Hero Die to gain the extra 1D6 Multiplier Bonus. On that die roll he rolled a "1", not adding enough to make up the 14 points necessary. Rather than spending the Hero POINTS he asked to spend an additional Hero DIE to add yet another 1D6 Multiplier Bonus die (the same expenditure of the first HD). Which was STILL more cost effective than spending all those Hero POINTS to meet the difference.

My *thought* was that you cannot use a Hero Die for the SAME type of action - such as spending 1,2,3 or even more Hero DIE one after another to continue adding "Power Stunts" to your powers on your same action/panel.
So I thought he would need to spend the Hero Die, and if he failed he COULD spend Hero Points to make the difference but not another HD for the extra Multiplier die.

Or to add to the example... he could spend 2 (or more) Hero Dice in the same action/panel IF they were for different uses. Such as spending one for the “Power Stunt!” ability and then another for the “Never underestimate me!” ability.
But not spending two Hero Dice on
(“Power Stunt!” + “Power Stunt!”)
or
(“Never underestimate me!” + “Never underestimate me!”)

hence the buncho questions on timing and using of Hero Points/Dice.... :)

Well adding a d6 to your roll is more effective in many cases, if your looking to succeed at a skill roll i'd use
“I do my best work under pressure.” Automatically succeed on any skill check, or automatically get a 20 on an untrained skill. In the case of an extended check, you automatically get a result as if you had rolled a “20” on 2d6!

You could adapt that for hit folls and/or stat rolls. Which would probably alleviate the need for adding constant hero dice.

I do understand your player, players like to succeed. But unless the roll is particularly important end of the world or save the city type situation one extra dice is sufficient in my books :)

Sometimes its good to fail, adds drama to the proceedings.

There is no limit of Hero Points are allowed to be spent on any roll except:
When the Narrator (or player in the Narrator's case) has already spent Hero Points on the opposing result. Bidding wars are not allowed.
Likewise, Hero Points can be spend whenever you want.
You can only spend Hero Points on yourself, unless you have the Leadership Advantage.

Only 1 Hero Die is ever allowed to be spent on a roll. (otherwise, you'd have rolls with infinite results) There is nothing to stop anyone from using a Hero Die for just one roll. So even if the Narrator spends Setbacks on a roll, the player can still spend a Hero Die on the counter.

These are two GREAT points. Are they listed in the rules as written? If so, where (page?). I've looked but missed them. I'd like to be more familiar to share with my players.
THANKS! :)
