IonGuard + B5 + Kirby-esque campaign ideas

I posted this at RPGnet and have gotten a few good replies. I thought it'd be awesome to take it to my fellow BASH! Brethern for ideas!

I'm toying with creating a campaign for my group and I'd love to hear ideas.
Here are the elements I want to build from:

Using Ion Guard as the "basis" for the campaign. In a "Green Lantern" style with PCs having the choice to be Ion Guard or (with a good story) other cosmics connected to them.

Then having this Ion Guard group stationed as "Rangers" ...
We are Rangers.
We walk in the dark places no others will enter.
We stand on the bridge, and no one may pass.
...on a Babylon 5 style space station somewhere in near system to Earth. With the station as a "Star Wars cantina" multi-alien station set as a trade and primary ambassador "neutral" site for aliens and galactic powers alike. You might consider it more like a "Sigil" of the supers universe plus being neutral similar to B5.

Then mix in all the excellent bizarre crazy neat cool visions of Jack "the King" Kirby, Marvel's "War of Kings" (Inhumans, Skrull, Kree, Shiar, & Heralds of Galactus), and older awesome such as "The Infinity Gauntlet", plus the excellent modern comic "Gødland", with touches of the more cosmic Legion of Super Heroes "The Great Darkness Saga"

All that!!
Now...
What other neat aspects for a supers campaign would you consider?
Any "must haves"?
Any storylines to use or try?
Other resources?

What would be a cool "pitch" for this campaign? Meaning, if this were a "Super Blockbuster" movie... what would "MOVIE GUY" say??

ION GUARD
Image
The Intergalactic Ordinance Network (ION) Guard is a heroic peacekeeping organization that has served to protect and defend the intelligent species of the many sectors of the Universe for the last billion years.

Each Guardsman - wearing the iconic golden ION Fist that has become synonymous with justice for many intergalactic inhabitants - is a cosmic powerhouse, capable of bringing the vast forces of an artificially harnessed singularity to bear against the enemies of peace, justice, and life.

Throughout the Universe they strive against evil and darkness. Though powerful, they are spread all too thin: they are but small lights, beacons of hope in the vast darkness enfolding the stars.

Sounds like fun. You must have an overall story arc in mind. Are you planning to take things along an arc or are you going to see what the players stat up and take it from there?

Cosmic things:

travel between planets. Silver Surfer stuck on Earth was lame. SS traveling between planets was cool.

Fighting starships. A problem I have with Kirby is that he tends to simply say things are impressive but he just inflated all of the numbers and everything still ends up being the same. Hero vs villain with x10 instead of x5 is not really different. Hero with x10 vs a starship make you feel epic.

Unsolvable problems. While cosmically powered, the problems cannot all be solvable with fists. A kree-skrull war which is so big you cannot win it by yourself - but can make a difference.

I don't have a major plan yet. I'm still trying to organize a game-gang. It's coming slow. ugh.
But...
I do have some ideas for the opening sequence of events. I'm one that tends to drop a bunch of things into the mix and then see which ones light up the group's eyes. Then go onward with plotting. For a longer planned campaign.
Though - if this group works out like I think it might, I may have to plan more rigidly. Which I don't like as much.

I do like to have PCs to know what I'm up for though.

I would love to do an "arc" so that I could encapsulate it and publish a cosmic adventure.

I have grand hopes though. On anything I attempt.
hehe

PS...
If folks are interested I can start laying out my opening sequence here for you guys. See what you think. Get some feedback?
anyone?

Sounds like a blast. I really like the idea of the ION Guard serving as sort of 'peacekeepers' on a diplomatic station.

I for one would love to see what you've come up with for an opening.
