Personal Update

On June 29th of 2009 I was admitted to the Lasalle General Hospital and told I had diabetes.
Needless to say my life changed dramatically.
I changed my diet, took the meds, got the exercise and lost 60 pounds in 1 year.
Pretty good move.
The thing is, for the last 4 months I have been wondering how it was possible that I was diabetic and yet not showing any signs. I ate well but not like a monk about it, and still my blood was in the normal ranges.
My A1C (measure of blood over a 6 month period) showed me to be in the normal range.
The only times I had hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) was when the one medication would be taken.
I wondered.
Time for a second opinion I felt.
Today I got that second opinion from the head of the Montreal General Hospital Diabetes Clinic, one of the top diabetic doctors in Quebec, if not Canada.
I do not have diabetes.
I have Metabolic Syndrome. A precursor to diabetes to be sure, but treatable and more importantly curable.
I am waiting for an appointment with another specialized clinic to begin treatments to defeat Metabolic Syndrome.
Yes, the sun shone a bit brighter today and I feel very fortunate to have been given a second chance.
Here's to hoping I don't * it up.
Cheers and thanks for reading
