Northwestern University did a study as to what most people would do if they had super powers. The result? Most of us would be supervillains! Ok, the study is pretty vague, but they point out that if you have an alter ego grounded in the normal world (ie Spiderman has Peter Parker and all his normal worries), you are less likely to go all evil villain on society.

Depends on the powers I get. If I can be invisible and walk through walls, then I would be the world's greatest thief. If I'm just really strong and indestructible, I'll probably work for the government.

In most of the comics, being a super hero is easy, with the villains clearly visible...
I wonder how Superman would deal with a guy like Madoff (and all his clones).

I know that I could never be trusted with power...
Anger would bring me to the dark side...

With great power comes greater power... But then, there is still much power to gain
Now, more seriously, moral righteously has several states of understanding:
More than 90% of adults are on level 3 (a or b) - they do what is right because they would suffer consequences if they didn't, or because they're living in a society with rules, and those are casted in the peoples beliefs. Higher levels means a self controling moral righteously, based not in the values of society but on those of universal truth, understanding and equality - The capability of (really) seeing both sides of an argument we're on (hard...).
In this state are less than 1%.
So with the superpowers, if that meant no consequences, and less society restraints, we would all turn in/be supervillains

I'm not so sure how true that would turn out to be. We all grew up seeing super-powered heroes such as Superman, Spiderman, The Flash, etc... I believe if a person were to receive powers they would be more inclined to emulate these role models, maybe not because it's the right thing to do, but because we've all day-dreamed about being them.
Maybe I'm too adversed to believing such a pessimistic view would be right.

I'm afraid thatif I had the powers of Marvel's Banshee, I'd be a superhero until my first traffic cut-off...
Then I'd be the hunted down villain wanted for massive property damage, greivous injury, and possibly manslaughter. And honestly, I'm not sure if I would turn myself in, or go underground and become a fugitive.
