Basic Action Super Heroes!

Ok, I admit it. I get really frustrated trying to make character sheets using all the neat ones saved as image files. Trying to line up text in Comic Life, Open Office and/or Scribus starts to tick me off.

Patronus has a doc file, but it's an image saved as a doc file. No use there.

Does anyone have one that isn't an image, so I can actually use it with my poor desktop publishing skills? If I need to, I can make one myself, but knowing me, that will take awhile.

I used to use MS Word to do everything until I began using comiclife. With the "wordart" you can still make some really spiffy looking graphical text.

You can always use text-boxes to help you position things (and even make them have no outline so nobody knows its a text-box)

Take a look at this Word doc. It uses the standard graphical sheet that has been floating around, and puts it as a background image in a Word file. Then it has text boxes for each of the main areas. The text boxes aren't always perfectly placed, I didn't take the time to resize the background image for an exact fit.

MS Word Character Sheet

After filling in the boxes, and possibly adding a character pic (if desired), I save the character as a Word file for future use, and then use the free print driver called PDFCreator to "print" the page as a graphic file (jpg or png), for posting on here. Or you could use something like Scribd to upload the word file itself, and just link to it from here.

I find Comic Life maddening to use. I can't explain why, but it just feels like it's harder than it should be. Trying to line up numbers for the ability scores is where I get aggravated, and tend to give up.

Thanks. I downloaded it, and will check it out. I never though trying to do a character sheet would be such a pain in the butt!

I just click on the ability score, and change it. So where it says "Brawn" I change to say "Brawn 4" you see? Far easier than trying to line up a seperate 4 next to the word Brawn.

And you can do this with the jpeg character sheet, or do you have a template you're using where you can modify the text? Cause that sure doesn't happen when I try it in Comic Life with the character sheet image

In comic Life I don't use the character sheet Image- I wrote out all the words in "invisible" text boxes.

Gotcha. Makes perfect sense (which is probably why I didn't think of it myself ).

Gonna have to try that, and see how it works. I've been trying to do a sheet for American Ape to post, and it's been driving me nuts.

Ok, So I did the text box in Comic Life. Came out ok, but I didn't see how to turn the box invisible. I thought sending it to the back would do it, but that didn't work. What's the command to make the text box invisible?

When you have the text box selected, off to the right- uncheck "fill" and "frame".
