However, I am a not good artist. At all. I have good story ideas, but my drawings are bad, and I don't really know how to properly do perspective or anything like that. Can any of you guys offer som help?

I feel your pain, my friend! I'm a horrible artist (although I'm actually decent at manipulating existing art). We have some great artists on the forums here, maybe someone will have some suggestions...

Depends what kind of help you are looking for really.

I would suggest you head over to our section called "The Sketch Pad" and start a thread there, or talk to the artists you see in it. :)

After a couple more posts, you can post links, so you could show us what you have as well.

Good luck :)

I was thinking something along the line of Freedom Force, but with a twist. Yes, it would be an organization of new supers fighting new Villains, but I think I would want it to deal with the relationships they have as supers, and the stresses of being a hero.

Or I could just go pure Silver Age BIF BOOM POW action. Both appeal to me

I too feel your pain. I *can* draw... but it is a tedious, slow process and I am never happy with my own work. I've found I'm a far better writer than I am an artist, which is why so little of my own artwork has appeared in my published material (can you guess which piece from BASH! SF was mine folks?).

My advice- check out the book "how to draw comics the marvel way". That was my first, best teacher on how to draw. Things that for me REALLY took a long time to learn are hands and women's faces, especially eyes.

I would also look on youtube to see if you can see examples of somebody drawing something in a style you want to emulate. Mimicry is a great teacher.

Or as Alienmastermind calls it "How To Draw Comics The Buscema Way" ;)

You could also post your writing here smarttman, I am sure many would like to read it.

Well, two hero ideas I really like are

Frequency: He controls sound and is extremely fast. In the past, he was a business man who played bass at night for a paying gig. One day, his amp short-circuited, giving him these powers over sound.

Slip: He is a being of clay, that can both reduce and increase his density. I think he will be a former professional wrestler named Sal "Slippery" O'Hooligan, who managed to get splashed in the face with a strange toxin after a mud wrestling match one night. Hence his form. I imagine him to look like an old strong man, with strange leotard and mustache. But, he has a dried appearance to him.

Hey there, smarttman...
One of the things you can do is to pick up either Drawing for Dummies, How to Draw Comics: The Marvel Way, or any of the various "draw manga" books that are out there. Then you should PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.

The easy part to drawing is that when you step back, it is much like martial arts practice. It is just a series of simple movements (or in this case shapes) used in a variety of ways. Here is an example to get you started

Image

Try starting with simple shapes such as a cup or ball. Take notice of the way shadows sit on the object and try sketching from different angles.

Then you can move onto people (which surprisingly are hard to draw at first). If you want to get into comics... do it... but you have the lay the ground work first.

Walt

I understand. I have a cool idea for a superhero webcomic, but I am not an artist at all.

My idea would be about a small group of heroes who have what would be considered "bad guy" powers.
They would call themselves "The Good Guys" or something similarly obvious, since they want to be very clear on this.

Is this something that you would be looking to sell or is this something that you are just doing for fun?
