Tick-like supplement

Post by Samuraidad »

Just got the following in my email and thought, too bad this won't be available for BASH! UE as well:

Parsons, KS. - September 10, 2010
-- Spectrum Games to release three ICONS-compatible supplements.

Spectrum Games is pleased to announce that they will release three inter-related products for use with Adamant Entertainment's ICONS role-playing game. The series of books is collectively to be titled "The Gamer's Guide to the Jolt Universe".

Each volume fleshes out a portion of the setting produced in the pages of Jolt Comics, a relatively small comicbook publisher that never was. Although designed as a series, each book acts as a stand-alone product.

The first volume will explore Hick City and its most heroic and dastardly inhabitants. You'll meet its primary protector, The Hoot Owl, along with Marshall Art, the Man-Feesh, and several other stalwart do-gooders. You'll also be introduced to the denizens of the city's underbelly, including such ne'er-do-wells as the Gnat, the Chimpire, Grossbeard the Pirate, Dirty Rat and many more. There will be 25 heroes and villains in all.

But it's not just a book of characters. The first volume will provide ICONS enthusiasts with a detailed look at Hick City itself, from its various districts to its key personalities.

According to Spectrum president Cynthia Celeste Miller, "I've always been a fan of superheroics with satirical or humorous overtones, such as the Tick and Mystery Men. So it's only natural that I developed a catalogue of characters and story ideas of that nature. Unfortunately, I never had an appropriate outlet for them in the gaming arena. When I read ICONS for the first time, I was blown away. It was the perfect game system for all these ideas that have been trapped in my head for all these years."

The Gamer's Guide to the Jolt Universe: Volume One will be released as a full-color PDF and also as a black and white hardcopy book in October 2010.

wow...

What weird strange coincidental timing.

Not more than 2 hours ago (today Saturday) I finished my first Narrating rung of BASH!

And it was AWESOME FUN. I plan to post a recap soon.

However.... the weird...
The game I ran was a game based in the style of "the Tick", "Mystery Men", "Venture Bros."!!

Mine is....
BRICK CITY - the Adventures of the Acceptables

It was hella fun.
I want to turn it into a world/supplement like that for BASH!
Using my first adventure as the book's first adventure. And all my villains, NPCs and the PCs as the core "iconics" for the setting.
I have a ton of research/writing done for game-mastering a "parody" and "satire" and straight out "comedic" game, that I'd like to build as a Narrator Book, with this universe as the core setting.

I need to get on this!

Question/thought.
When building something like that - do you think "fan" interest would be better or worse off if I post a recap of my game today? If I were to plan to make it into a book for potential sale as a 3rd Party (if not an actual BASH! book - if BASHMAN were so inclined, hehehe)?
Not sure...

advice anyone?

Hey Kev, I for one would love to see more of your setting. I LOVE the Tick and the Mystery Men!! And Brick Town sounds like it is developing well. I just think that BASH is such a great system for such a setting.

Glad it was of interest to you as well, Tribunus. :)

Yeah, wasn't real impressed with the art. You get my vote to do the BASH Tick'ish genre' book, Jess. :)

Well, BASH! UE will have a supplement called "ZeroeS" which is for making some sub-par heroes ala "The Tick", "Legion of Substitute Heroes", "The Venture Bros." etc.

I, personally, am excited for this.
I actually like the name "ZEROES" and immediately began thinking of logo creation ideas and design for it. It's the graphic designer in me... I can't help it.

The word/title conjures exactly what you want - conveying the theme and style in a title.

Great idea. I can't wait to add to this direction with my own ideas for BASH!
