Well, I know at least one of you guys went, so how about an after action report for us poor schlubs that couldn't go!

Well, the only BASH-related news I can think of was that it didn't win an Ennie award (it seemed to Paizo's year, I guess), but that the game sold out rather quickly at the IPR booth (I managed to snag a copy so now I don't have to scramble for my netbook to look at the PDF).

I know someone mentioned being there in the Artist's Alley, but I was too busy running games to track him down. :(

Maybe next year someone will go ahead and submit a BASH adventure and I can get some face-to-face action! :D

IF I go again next year, and that's a big IF, I'll actually submit a couple of events for BASH. I had my stuff this year but could never manage to meet up with people to play. I take the blame for that one as it was kind of a haphazard "Sure, I'll run a game" way of organizing things. There was only one player that was really chomping at the bit for a game and everyone else seemed to have other stuff going on whenever I was available. Friday night was the best night for a game for a lot of people but that was when I was at the ENnies.

Best Rules was surprising to me at the ENnies this year. One of the guys behind Diaspora said that his heart dropped when they announced the silver winner because he was convinced that BASH was going to take either gold or silver, so when Diaspora was given the gold he actually cried a little. I'd really like to know how close that vote was because every game in that category was fantastic. Personally I thought it was going to go to some combination of Wild Talents 2/BASH/Atomic Highway/Diaspora so Hero caught me by surprise. It just seems that most people complain about Hero's rules when the game comes up in conversation, so it makes me happy to see that they have made some good decisions with the newest edition and that the public recognized it. All in all I'm not surprised at Paizo cleaning up this year but wonder how they'll fair next year when they don't have the behemoth release. WotC really only had supplements and adventures submitted this year and I think that's going to be the way Paizo goes for next year.

The con itself... I'm glad I went but I don't know that I'm going to make it again. I'm sure that the more often you go and the more people you know and the more involvement you have in the industry the more fun the convention is, but I'm kind of a nobody when it comes to community and industry involvement so it was a bit of a 'meh' experience for me. There were -a lot- of invite only games that I wish I could have been a part of (gaming with Greg Stolze or Will Wheaton or Chris Pramas and Steve Kenson? Yes, please!). Still, I'm very glad I went this year and got to see it for myself. I did get to play in an L5R game that rekindled my love of Rokugan and this was the first time I've been able to play outside of the d20 system. The roll-keep system makes me very happy and I can see myself running a game in the near'ish future.

One thing for next year... If I go, I'm taking better shoes. My feet will never forgive me for what I put them through this year.

Hey, Kinetic,

Now I wish I'd made a better effort to hook up with you.

You're right in that the more you go to GenCon, the more connections you make, but don't let that stop you from attending. One trick is to find a game you find interesting and show up with generic tickets in hand. You'd be amazed how many "sold out" games end up with an empty seat or two, or have extra characters for walk-ins.

And if you offer to run a BASH game and actually get it together, you'll be my best friend forever. :D

P.S. You are so right about the shoes.

Nestor,

Shadowchaser and Alien Mastermind were the people in Artists Alley. They just started a team up to do art for people (Dan all ready does stuff for ICONS, and I sent him a buttload of commissions to help him out with his recent situation), and their combined work is pretty neat as well.

I've never been to GenCon, but hope to some day. I've been to Origins twice years ago, and went to Dragon*Con once. Had a blast at all 3 events.

If I ever do attend GenCon, I'd love to run BASH there, or even play in a game.
