Question about Mind

Post by Sijo »

This is something I recently noticed: Brawn and Agility over 2 are clearly indicated as being Superhuman. But what about Mind?

Several BASH builds I've seen give characters high Mind, even if they otherwise have no "true" powers. So is Mind considered differently, or is Mind 3 and higher still considered superhuman? It appears not since their description as "geniuses" is something that actually exists. However in the comics Superintelligence is considered as a power (see for example, Brainiac) and I feel Cosmic Thought would be a bit much for most campaigns. (Personally, I would give geniuses such as Prof. Richards Mind 2 and lots of skills).

Opinions?

Mind for an ordinary human is not limited to 2 ranks. Reed Richards would probably have a Mind of 5; Tony Stark a 4, Banner a 3.

Ok, but none of those characters are considered to have "super intelligence" as a power. How do you cover characters like Brainiac or The Leader?

Super Intelligence can be covered as Boost Mind (only for inventing) or something like that. The Freedom Ring and Iron Gauntlet supplements have characters like that (they're third party BASH products).

That's how I would do the Leader, but I'd give Brainiac-5 Cosmic Thought, or at least Mind 5 + Heightened Mind.

Hmm, good ideas, thanks! (note Brainiac 5 *has* used his intelligence to do things like resist Mind Control, while geniuses like Stark haven't.)

True enough; you could do a version of Boost to Mind that only affects Skills and intelligence, while leaving the willpower aspect lower.
