New Artist!
So there's this kick * artist named Joe Singleton. He's done some art for V&V, does a webcomic, and has done some art for the upcoming Supers! Revised Edition.
Anyway, he opened up commissions to help raise funds to attend a comic convention in San Antonio. I pounced and picked up 5. Joe is a quick worker, and I all ready have pencil sketches to show! figured I'd share them here.
First up is Iron Maiden, a metallic skinned mercenary with sharp spikes coming out of her body:
Next is Elastico, a stretching villain:
Warder, who can create wards as well as a cloud of darkness:
Radion, whose body emits radiation:
and lastly, Manipulator, who controls a type of force projection:
Not bad for quick sketches based on some old artwork!

Thanks Mr J! Speaking of which, here's a low res colored version of Elastico! Joe finished him today (2 days from when I sent the original to him). Talk about a fast turnaround!MrJupiter wrote:Excellent stuff. I love the pose for Elastico.

Thanks. I think he came out pretty good.MrJupiter wrote:Elastico turned out awesome! He has a great smile, and the sunglasses are perfect!
I put up a slightly better scan for fairytalejedi, cause that one was a bit pixelated.
Now here's some more colored versions:

He had 12 left, but I filled them allMrJupiter wrote:These are great! Thanks for providing the slightly higher resolution pics. I'm going to have to get a commission submitted before all his slots are taken.
However, I only asked for him to do 2 when he can, and that the rest could wait if others wanted to get something done. I did that because I had emailed a friend about it, but he may not see it for a day or two because of his work schedule. And I wanted to make sure Joe gets to this convention, which is in about a month.
the two I asked him to do now are 2 new images of Puzzler and Sceptre for The Dirty Dozen. As time has gone by, some of the art just doesn't work for me. Darrell Miller does good stuff, but some of his golden age clip art isn't as good as others, so I got Joe, Anthony Green (who did the 2 I posted earlier, Baroness Blood and Hyena), and Richard Spake (who I asked to redo a villain named Doctor Dracula) to do five of the characters. That still leaves me 7 from Darrell's clip art, plus the pieces he did for me of Baroness Blood's plane and a castle one of the other villains.

I just got the color pieces on Blitzkrieger and Zyklon tonight, so I went and ordered the rest of the team. I decided to get 3, one of which is the Norse Godling. His name is Ingvar Freyrson, as he is a child of the Vanir God Freyr. I got the idea for the character decades ago after reading a trilogy set in modern times, but featured Heimdall as the main character (it's set post-Ragnarock). Besides Ingvar will be Sigrdriffa, named after a Valkyrie whose name translates to "Victory Bringer", and the last member is Aufseher (Overseer), the only * super in the group. He's there to keep an eye on the rest of them, to make sure they don't betray the Reich. Thought it would be a nice touch.MrJupiter wrote:I think that it would be a great idea to include both the Norse godling as well as the female member (its always nice to have a woman's touch on the team). The idea of an actual god, even a possibly minor one, is a very intriguing idea. The Pantheon sound like a great hero team concept that I look forward to hearing more about.
And expect some more Joe Singleton sketches in a bit. Got 4 more yesterday, and I sent him 3 more to do (It could have been four, but one is the planet being CuMorrig did for me a few years ago, and since that being is in space, the extensive background art made me not want to send him a 4th one).
Anyway, off to photobucket to upload the sketches!

This one is the warlord of an alien race. The original image I wanted to commission was based on the bad guy from the movie serial Zombies of the Stratosphere. The artist ended up doing something totally different than what I wanted. He then kind of disappeared. The basic image had promise (a version of which is on page two of this thread), but the legs on the image were way too short. Joe fixed that, and made him look more menacing:
as an added bonus, here's a rough of the Warlord's space ship that Russel Boyd did:
And here is a modern take on a Golden Age Villain known as Black Death. He was a killer who fought The Lady in Red in the comics, but wasn't very skilled. I told Joe to modernize the idea, but now he's a hardened assassin/mercenary. I also had Joe draw a weapon that was a prototype for the US Army, to show the kind of access he has to weaponry.

Back in the late 90's, I created a villain for a superhero setting that was featured in a fanzine. Inspired by Kang the Conqueror, he was a master not only of time travel, but of time itself. His first incarnation appeared during the Golden Age, when he was Professor Eon. He appeared again in the modern age as Eon (also known as the Time Twister). A sketch of his soldiers is on page 9 of the Kris Smith thread. Now when I submitted it for Herozine, they had a new image done which showed Time Twister (as he was called back then) in a full suit of armor. I liked it, so I created a third incarnation, Lord Eon. I had Joe update Lord Eon, and this is what he came up with:
The zine also had an image of his soldiers, who are known as the Temporal Terror Troopers (or TTT for short). I didn't have an image for them back then, so this was an original look. I had Joe do them as well, cause I love their look. Here's what he came up with:
Whew! That's a lot of stuf! Now to see what he comes up with for the last 3! Enjoy!
