"Could not have said it better myself, Major," the senior-ranking officer said with a hint of a stern grin. "Circumstances dictate this is our country's best course of action. We called, you answered. Leave it at that and let's go kick some * tail. Captain Stevens, Lieutenant Winters, get the paperwork underway and let's show them around a bit, where they'll be bunking, the mess, their means of transport. Captain Starr, you're with me. Let's walk."

Turning on his heel, General Brubaker left the group without waiting for Blockade to fall in at his side. He was there by the time they reached the hangar entrance the rest of the team had recently entered through. Outside, the rain pounded down.

Brubaker was silent for a moment before speaking.

"Listen, son. You don’t think I know this group just might be a train wreck waiting to happen?! You don't think I'm worried we're putting untrained civilians in harm's way? * right I am. But guess what? The army got punched in the kisser by these Kraut super-agents not once, not twice, but four times. The brass is done sending our young men up into a meat grinder. You know better than anyone what this * super-science crap is like -- these soldiers are way beyond what the average GI can handle, and our GIs are the best damned soldiers in the world."

Pulling out a pipe and tamping some tobacco into it, the General lit it and continued between puffs. "So... so until we can re-route some of the right kind of friendlies back home to help you and Meteor -- they're it. It's not like we've got mystery men and super-agents coming out our ears. And think about it this way: with these attacks on US soil, it's just a matter of time before word gets out. When it does, it's going to pull these types out of the woodwork. They'd be in harm's way regardless. This way we get to ride herd. You get to ride herd. The Major is going to need your help. I fully expect you to give it to him. I'd hate to see you wind up with a desk job now that you're finally back on your feet after that business in Holland."

“Sorry Sir, sometimes I call it as I see it. I meant no offence to the rest of the, err team. I have the utmost respect for your knowledge and experience General and if you have decided this is the best course of action then I’ll give it my 110%. So whatever you or the Major want from me, you have it.”

Cauchemar, Normal, 80 hits

"On that subject, General, I've sent for my partner The American Dream. I expect he will not be terribly delayed in his arrival." Cauchemar said in response to the general's statement barely looking up from the arrayed files.

AMERICAN RUBBER (Status: Normal, Hits: 100)
aka. Dr. Kenny Kirby

'Geez Louise'
Kenny thought... This isn't like teams in the comics at all. An' the military. AMERICAN RUBBER didn't get it... why HAD they contacted him? Powers beyond mortal men for sure, but the "heroes" here sure weren't acting like good men (or women). A.R. was, to this point, inexperienced... But at least the attitude wasn't so doom-an-gloomy as the others. Ready to start a fight between them...

Kenny could feel a palpable load of various judgments on himself and the others... from the military muckity-mucks and the others on the 'team'.

It just didn't feel right.
Maybe proving himself, maybe looking into the clues of this Ratzi occurrence (as it was becoming more and more mysterious) would be the solution...

Either way. He thought ... this wasn't fun or patriotic feeling yet.

"I knew I could count on you, soldier," Brubaker said with a satisfied nod. "Now let's go get to work and get your team shaped up."

Coming back over to the group, the General dismissed Lady Paramount's comment with a gesture and frowned at Cauchemar's declaration. "Your partner?"

Captain Stevens was handing out paperwork, more or less forms that empowered the members team to act on behalf of the US Army. "American Dream. We had him checked out before, sir. Shouldn't be a problem."

"More the merrier I suppose," the General said gruffly. "Just make sure he--"

The sound of a phone ringing interrupted the officer, and he watched and frowned as Lieutenant Evans picked up the receiver. The young officer nodded, said something in return and then turned to the General, the phone still at his ear.

"General -- it's Colonel Steadman. He says they're at it again! The Germans are attacking a rail yard in Iowa! Town called Orient!"

Jogging over to a large map of the United States on the wall, Stevens grabbed a big red push-pin and added it to the map -- a fifth marker. Using a set of measuring sticks quickly, he nodded and turned back to the group. "We can be there inside two hours, General!"

"You heard the man!" Brubaker shouted. "Grab your gear and get to the plane!"

Cauchemar, Normal, 80 Hits

Cauchemar stood looked up from the files arrayed on the table to the yellowing clock on the wall. Two hours to Iowa, that's a good speed, but it's also a good head start. He thought as he cast one last glance at the dossiers and began to move to the door.

Unknown Soldier: Status: Normal (Unliving) 100 Hits, 6HP, 1HD

Unknown Soldier boarded the airplane. If he was at all apprehensive about being aboard a flying machine for the first time, it did not show outwardly.

The Sky Marshall (Status: Normal, Hits: 100)

"They're playing our song!" reverberated from the Sky Marshall's helmet. "I hope we get to see that flying wing up close!" He followed the team toward the waiting airplane.

Blockade (Status: Normal, Hits: 100)

Blockade stood at the top of the ramp and watched the team enter, it looked like they were going to be forged in fire, he just hoped nobody got burned. Once they were all were aboard he did a quick check that everyone was strapped in and ready for the go.

“Major the teams assembled and ready for the go, what’s our objectives when were on the ground sir?”

AMERICAN RUBBER (Status: Normal, Hits: 100)
aka. Dr. Kenny Kirby

'ALLLLLLRIGHT' Kenny thought, then blurted...
"ALLLLLLRIGHT" with a long legged stretch taking his shorter form above and beyond his teammates - *walking* some 9-10' above the crowd rushing to/into the plane following the brass's directions.

"Sirs?" Looking around to anyone willing to answer, "Do we have any maps or layouts or anything of the area we're going into that we can lay a ground plan along the way?"

"Fellas?" Talking around his new team as they rushed, "You guys got any tactical ideas for the group going in? Slow-n-low? or heigh-n-hard?, I've been practicin' making a parachute drop... Haven't done it from height yet, but I'm 78% sure it'll fly...... an I can take most of us with me down!!" Kenny eagerly posited!!

Lady Paramountl (Status: Normal, Hits: 100)

"I'm 22 % , that I am going to pass on that." Lady Paramount said with a good natured smile, as she strapped herself into her flight harness. "Truth is, I've never made a parachute jump. But, I'm a quick learner!" she shouted over the sound of the engines roaring to life. "Now let's go kick some * keister! Go team!...Hey !? Does this outfit have a name? We need a battle cry! "

Major Meteor (Status Normal, Hits: 80)
“Major the teams assembled and ready for the go, what’s our objectives when were on the ground sir?”
With that question, he knew he was committed to leading this group of diverse heroes

"Objectives Captain? Simple. To stop the *'s from achieving their objective by kicking their seig-heiling asses, and locking them up in Leavenworth for the duration of the war!"

Chuckling to himself, Meteor wondered if they would actually be able to accomplish that objective. Nodding to Blockade, he followed him into the aircraft...

SCENE TWO

It had been quite a night so far. From travelling through the rain and meeting all the other heroes, to sitting through the briefing and then getting into it with Blockade, to then getting the call and racing off to the plane, there was electricity in the air. They hadn't trained together, they hadn't drilled and practiced and planned -- and it didn't matter. The Germans were attacking -- in Iowa, of all places, and it was up to this group of fantastic Americans to put a stop to it.

The plane was magnificent. (Sky Marshall had about wet himself when he saw it, though he kept that tidbit under his helmet.)

Image

A fully-functional prototype jet-powered transport with room for a dozen people in the rear, it rumbled and roared as the pilot pushed the throttle and taxied out onto the runway.

"Good luck!" General Brubaker had shouted as the rear gate went up, but the group was happy to see that Captain Stevens and Lieutenants Winters and Evans were accompanying them.

Stevens checked his gear and shouted over the din of the rocket-engines. "Major Meteor's got it! We don't have any real intel about the situation except that it's a railyard in a small town, and it's being attacked by the group you saw in the dossiers! Police and guardsmen are responding, but they're under instruction to just delay and defend until we get there! This is it, team, faster than we could have imagined! Thank you all for coming tonight -- I mean that, your country is proud of your service!"

The Captain went on to say a few things more, but when the pilot opened the throttle the noise was just too much, overwhelming everything the captain said in a wash of blasting jet exhaust. The XCG-79 tore down the runway like it was shot from a catapult, and in a matter of seconds they were airborne, lifting off into the dark, rain-filled sky. Lightning flashed outside as the plane banked and accelerated, turning westward. It was a few minutes before things leveled off and the plane began cruising, making conversation possible again.

Sitting across from Jack Starr in the close confines of the cargo area, Mae Winters finally met the big man's eyes. In the dim light of the plane's interior she somehow looked great, now wearing a long wool coat over top of the frumpy army outfit that she somehow made look so good. A hint of a smile crossed the woman's face, then she looked away.

Down a few spots, young Lieutenant Evans was seated next to the Sky Marshall. "You saved my uncle one time," the obviously grateful soldier began. "He was working in New York, up on the Empire State washing windows. His gear failed him and you caught him -- like ten stories from the ground. So -- thanks. I'm going to want an autograph when this is all done, sir."

Captain Stevens was in position next to Cauchemar as the plane approached, but didn't breach, the sound barrier, thundering towards the dark western horizon. "What did you see, anything of interest in those pictures and statements? You have quite a reputation for figuring this kind of thing out, you know. What do you make of it so far -- seems pretty random, don't you think?"
