A late model luxury Lincoln town car pulls up. It is all black with tinted windows. As it drives up, it stops only 20 feet (4 squares) ahead of you idles for a moment. From the passenger side front gets out a large man in a black suit, with black mirror shades and a simply white shirt/black tie combination.

He circles the car to your side and barely giving you a once over. He proceeds to the back door (driver’s side) and opens it. He extends his hand as you see a lot of lady leg come out. Stepping up is none other than Jillian Brie, the current reigning Miss Centropolis. He long, shapely forum is dressed in a long black evening gown, topped with a mink stole. Her blonde tress cascades down her back and her dazzling green eyes twinkle as she smiles at you all.

As she steps aside, another person exits the car, his height would give it away if not for the signature ginger hair at his rather squarish face that is a dead giveaway. At 5’2” before you stands Mayor Tommy Drake.

Before any of you can say anything he holds up his hand to stop you and begins to speak in a rather direct and confidant tone, the same tone that won him the election against Anthony “Black Tony” Romano’s candidate, incumbent Mayor Lester Brooks.

“One of you is missing. Oh well, no big.” He stands almost comically small beside the over 6 foot bodyguard and the 5’10” model/beauty queen. “I don’t imagine any of you realize exactly where you are standing right now, but even if you do I will tell you.”

He waves his hand broadly showing the parking lot, “This is the secret entrance to the Centurion’s Tower. Above us stands the very home of the greatest heroes this city has ever known… Until now.”

“As you all know I came to the mayor’s office on one mandate, I was going to clean this city up and return it to the people from the hands of the criminals and corruption that has it in its grip right now.”

He continues to speak without pause, giving you know room to interject. He seems to have something to say and nothing will stop him.

“We are off to a good start, but good isn’t enough. I want great!”

He regards each of you.

“I set my men to find me the best heroes this city had today and then send them the invitation to this little soiree. All but one are here and that a good sign. You are the next step in my plan. The people need hope, the people need heroes and you are the heroes they need.”

He looks each of you in the eye as he speaks.

“Tempest. Front-Runner. The Elemental. The Ferret. Detective Zero. Numinous and Captain Max.”

He smiles an engaging smile.

“You are the ones I have selected to be the new heroes for this beautiful city of ours. You are the ones that I have brought together to be the heroes that we need. You are to be this city’s NEW Centurions!”

Narrator Voice: As he says that Detective Zero your Danger Sense goes off. If you can make an Agility 20 Roll (You may add the +2 Multiplier for Danger Sense to this roll) you can warn the others, otherwise you will be the only one who can act in the surprise round.

For everyone (if they can act) there is a huge explosion!

React appropriately.

[bash]3,+2 = 401222349 = Fixed[/bash] Like this?(According to my last sheet)
edit: ok, a success, that means that if I warn the team, they'll be able to 'dodge' the damages?

Narrator Voice: That's it :) You can warn the others and they can react. As well as you. Everyone roll for Priority! :)

Whoops... you should be adding the 2 to your Multiplier, so the roll would have been x5 not x3... 9x5=45 :)

Suddenly, Zero shouts "Danger ahead! Beware heroes! "
[bash="Priority"]5 = 1699217472 = Fixed[/bash]
Is it possible for Zero to 'shield' any of the civilians?

For me, it would be a really difficult choice...
But not for Zero I say he'd use simple logic.
The three of them got the same chances (not) to survive.
I would gladly try to save the gorgeous Miss Centropolis.
But the city needs their guide: Tommy Drake.
Then Zero will try to shield the Mayor.
I'm sure any of the lover Boys around will battle to get a chance to save the beauty :) Too mad I'm a robot!
Which roll must I make? Agility?

Narrator Voice: Yes you make an Agility roll but understand unless they protect you from the explosion, you will take the full amount, no save for less since you are shielding the Mayor :)

On hearing the warning from Detective Zero, Numinous flies to about 5 feet from the Mayor and friends, and throws up her hand, forming a glowing pink dome of force, shaped like a huge round roman shield over us. This forms around the mayor's party and herself, centered on the Mayor.

OOC: Move 3 squares, then Force field 3, plus Omnipotence to help increase the area. Set it to Close Range, Medium Area, 5x5 squares centered on Mayor. FF soak is 10. Hits is mind X 10 +30/point = 140 hits

With Zero's warning echoing through the garage, I start looking around for the source of the danger. As the blast wave sweeps towards the mayor, I grit my teeth and try something I've never attempted before...

OOC: I'm not sure if you are thinking about the explosion as a story element, or a combat effect. If it is a story element, then I'd like to try using Kinetic Energy Mastery to either contain or at least redirect the explosion away from the mayor and the heroes if possible. The explosion is presumably made up of heat and momentum, the two core manifestations of kinetic energy, so I think that could apply. I would use the Push rules to add one level (making it Mastery 5) at the cost of 10 Hits. [bash="Mastery Attempt (if allowed)"]5 = 6275672 [/bash]

If you're considering the explosion a combat effect and not really in Mastery's bailiwick, I'll instead create a wall of force as close to the source of the explosion as I can, positioned so that the gathering area is in the "shadow" of my force field. I'll take 10 hits to use Push to give me Force Field 4 (variable), which I'll set as Mid Range, Small arc (20' wide wall), with Soak 10 and 60 Hits (3x10 + 30).
[bash="Soak (if needed)"]4 = 1451590523 [/bash]

Code: Select all

Narrator's Voice: Numinous has the Priority on that one so she gets her force field up to take the blast. You use your Mastery to redirect the blast away from the mayor and his car (there is still the driver inside). Let' see what the Elemental and Front-Runner do before I continue.

The Elemental takes a few thundering steps in the mayor's direction but he is simply too slow and can only hope that his companion's powers are sufficient to save them.

Just as the blast lights the garage, the massive stone figure braces himself to take the explosion.
