Or I just wait until bulletproof reveals himself from hiding to shoot the hostages and carry out my action as planned.
Look, I came to play Basic Action Super Heroes. I want to have fun doing super heroish things, I don't want to have to roll dice all the time. I'm not built to make a constant string of tough mind checks. If your story at this point hinges on us failing in this task that's fine, do it with narration, and give us some hero points for the plot twist, don't do it by requiring a bunch of dice rolls that would be statistical miracles if we succeeded at for relatively mundane tasks.
This game is not, so far, matching my play style, which is not to say you are running it "wrong" there is no wrong way to have fun. However this is not the way I tend to have fun.
