Age of Olympus: Fantasy Superheroes!

Post by BASHMAN »

So tonight as a "one-shot" I decided to run a "Fantasy Superheroes" game set in Greek Mythology times- and it went very well. I made 4 pre-gens, and had 4 players (one of whom elected to make a character).

Our characters were:

Flora & Fauna: Adopted daughters of Artemis, gifted with powers over plants & animals
Icarus: Saved from drowning by Zeus, he is pledged to fight for justice (he is actually a skilled normal like "batman" the only mortal in the group)
Triton: Son of Poseidon with powers to control and create water, as well as deafen with his powerful conch shell horn.

The one who made his own character wanted to be an Asgardian Dwarf, which we basically made into an Earth elemental with a beard and an Adamant Axe! He could "swim" through the earth (there were many "Jaws" references as he came up from under a Cyclops and cut him in half). His back-story was that the Frost Giants had destroyed his hall seeking his birthright artifact, the Adamant Axe. Odin ordered him to leave Asgard and to take the Axe to Earth, so it would be safe from the Frost Giants, and recommended he see Greece, so he could "keep in practice" fighting giant monsters.

The first encounter consisted of most of our heroes aboard a ship sailing for Crete. Triton, who was swimming along side the boat, noticed that Sauhagin were trying to board it, and blasted them off the side with a tidal wave (fortunately missing the ship itself with it). Flora managed to wrap some up with kelp, while Icarus tossed a "Thunder Flask" at them to stun them. Eventually, the fishmen fled, but the heroes had one captive named "Poindexterous"- a B1 A1 M1 Sauhagin minion with 10 Hits. They decide that they want to keep Poindexterous as a servant, and with her suggestion power, Flora convinces Poindexterous to join them as a servant- fortunately, Triton's conch can produce the gallons of salt water Poindexterous needs each day to live once they get on dry land.

The second encounter, Icarus was flying ahead on the isle of Crete to check things out (there were no people outside the city walls) and bolders began flying at him! Cyclopses (is that even how you pluralize that?). His magic shield (Deflect 2) batted down two of the bolders, actually hitting one of the 50' tall Cyclops so hard that it killed him in one shot, while grievously wounding the other! Needless to say, I guaged that this encounter would be easy, and ramped up the number of Cyclopses to 2/Hero instead of 1/Hero! Which was a good thing, because the crater created by that reflected bolder after it blew through a cyclops got the attention of a dwarf who was "swimming" through these mountains, and decided to begin some shin-chopping of Cyclops!

One of the Cyclops was a king, who was hired by an evil witch to Harrass the town, so that people would remain hidden behind its walls. Triton deafened nearly all the cyclops, while the Dwarf (King Stonefist is his name) began chopping one in half each time it was his panel! Icarus was doing extremely well at first (despite getting knocked back about 60 feet by a powerful swing of the King's club!) but was eventually grappled by the Cyclops King. The other Cyclops also began grappling- two of which who tried to grapple Flora died and turned into trees (her Damage Aura is nasty) while one did succeed in grappling Triton, and even wresting his conch away from him, only to be slain by Icarus once he was free of the Cyclops king's grip.

In the end, a great time was had by all, and I look forwared the time I get to pick up where we left off- with the Heroes in pursuit of the Sorceress who stole the Golden Fleece and set the Cyclops upon the town!

Heh!

Sounds like a good time was had by all.

Does Icarus use gadgets, appropriate to the time of course?

Posted on this in two other forums, but once again, this sounds like an awesome game setting, did you ever get to continue the hunt or is it still on the "to run" list, I know I have a ton of those myself.
