Got to play BASH on Saturday
Saturday was NerdNYC's Recess game day in Manhattan. During the afternoon sessions, someone ran BASH UE. We basically used the templates from the back (we got to pick from the 25 point characters), customized them with skills, ads/disads, Mental Malfunctions, chose some names, and off we went.
We had some interesting characters, including a super strong orangutan, a psychic power ranger, a speedster with a fetish for eating hot dogs between battles, a weather controller, a teenager blaster, and I played Mr. Flexible, the stretcher.
It was a pretty straight forward adventure, but we had a blast. The GM had never run the game before, but other than forgetting he didn't have to roll for NPC's all the time, did a good job of conveying how the game runs. Helped me get a good feel for how the game plays, and how the multiplication isn't a problem at all (I brought my copy, so I had the back cover chart to make it easier on us all).
Some interesting bits:
My character using his body morphing into weapons to turn his arms into gongs, and slamming them together on a thug; the weather controller freezing the villain, so the blaster could take him out with one of his specialty blasts, the mentalist using his TK to lift objects to intercept attacks on him. I also had my character morph into the armor of a robot we defeated, covering the weather controller, so we could sneak into the villain's base.
That's all I can remember off the top of my head; the GM has an account here, so hopefully he'll post something (forgot to get his screen name here, as I only know his NerdNYC one).
All in all, we had a good time, and I thought it was better than the other game I played in during Recess. Hopefully next time, I can see about running BASH myself!

And I was the one that ran that game! I had a good time, and yeah, my minion running skills need some serious polish.
I had a lot of fun. Since it was my first time running, I made some mistakes in choices. Like my thugs needed to be so many in the beginning just to pose some kind of threat. The Security Bots in the middle were actually pretty tough, and I think stretched out combat too long for my tastes, I should have been faster.
Tank at the end was well handled, and I think I was playing it silly all night, but I really really loved the feel of the game, they way it felt like I wanted to play more of the game, and an extended campaign.
Now I NEED to learn Maptools or get people together more often.

Don't feel like that; depending on your background and if you've ever used anything similar to it, MapTools can be confusing. Making the user interface more intuitive and friendly for newcomers is one of the things they plan to focus on in the next major version.
I'd be happy to help walk you through it. If you'd like a tutorial, pop over into the MapTools thread and we can set up a time. That way anyone else who wants to join us, can.
