I was looking around to see if I could come up with a better city name than "Dominionville" for my BASH! setting, while still trying to get a Canadian sounding city name.

Below, is a list of alternate names that were proposed for Canada:

* Albion
* Anglia – to honour of the main religion of the Protestant British
* Albionoria – "Albion of the north"
* Borealia – from 'borealis', the Latin word for 'northern'; compare with Australia
* Cabotia – in honour of Italian explorer John Cabot, who explored the eastern coast of Canada for England
* Colonia
* Efisga – an acronym of "English, French, Irish, Scottish, German, Aboriginal"
* Hochelaga – an old name for Montreal
* Laurentia
* Mesopelagia – "land between the seas"
* Norland
* Superior
* Tuponia – derived from 'The United Provinces of North America'
* Transatlantica
* Ursalia – "place of bears"
* Vesperia – "land of the evening star"
* Victorialand – in honour of Queen Victoria

Hard to believe I could have been an Efisgan citizen :)

I am starting to warm up to 'Norland', but 'Beavaria' sounds pretty cool, too.

You mean the name of a city?

How about Glacier City? Maybe it began as a gold-mining town, and when it was built at least, was at the base of a glacier. While the glacier may have receded, the name remains, and Glacier City is one of the larger metropolises of Canada. Though the gold mines have played out long ago, the machine-building industry that took root to support the mine industry remained long after.

From this point decide if you want it to be like a Gotham/Detroit or a Metropolis/New York.

If the former, have the machine industry from the city take a major nose dive in the 70s, and the city has been on a downward spiral ever since, with rising crime, etc.

If the later, have it switch from mining machinery in the 1970s to computer chips, and it is essentially "The Canadian Silicon Valley".

Glacier City, interesting.

The city map I am using has what could be a bay, so it could be Glacier bay.

I am using an old WWII US army map of Tripoli (coincidence of what is going on in Lybia), as the map is fairly simple, yet gives enough detail with houses, hospitals, rail lines, etc..

It also has sections that fit perfectly with BASH! random encounter tables.

I am basing the city on a hodge podge of things from Halifax, Quebec city, a bit of Ottawa, etc..

Right now, I have it as being founded as a fort by the French in the 18th century, then taken over by the English shortly after.

It is a maritime city that has seen a hit in the past 20 years to its fishing industry, yet is still positioned well for shipping and is used as one of the ports for newly arrived immigrants.

Population is just over 300,000, broken roughly into:

45% English
30% French
10% Italian
5% First Nations
5% Irish
5% Other

Now, I am using the Metrolpolis publication as a template, along with a tourist guide for a real city, to help me write out descriptions of each area in the city, interesting places to visit, newspapers, etc..
